Fixman Self-Amalgamating Repair Tape / Magic Tape Non-Tacky 25mm x 10m (193082)

I bought this stuff to bulk up the handles on my wood carving knives and it did the job very well , it gave me plenty of grip and stopped my hand cramping.

Good value. Seems to adhere well. Time will tell how it performs but looks and feels like a quality product.

It was bought as a value tape for sealing a hot water leak in boiler. The leak was in a challenging area for any tape as shape awkward to wrap around. It worked for a few days but not enough time to arrange for a more permanent repair. It is worthwhile having in the toolbox for emergencies to help buy time!

Some makes of this tape doesn’t stick too well, this tape bonds to itself very well indeedGood quality tape works well on a huge variety of applications NB: not meant for really oily areas it decays the tape.

This stuff is brilliant, I have been using it for over 30 years. Use it to bind up or seal pretty much anything. Its tough and hardwearing and used properly it forms a permanent seal. For best results gently stretch and release it a few times before applying as this puts heat into the rubber and aids the curing process. I used to work with the bloke that invented this stuff. It was invented during ww2 and still new uses are being found for it.Be a bit careful when applying it as it is a bit fragile in its raw state and it is easy to pull apart but rest assured that once it has cured it can only be cut off as it bonds to itself permanently. just remember to exercise it before applying and leave in a warm place to cure to produce the optimum result.The easiest way to remove it from its backing tape is to use a sharp blade and cut through the backing tape then fold it over your finger to ease the grip on the backing tape. and once you finish leave a little tag to make further use easier to start. Dont just pinch it to open up the backing tape as it will just stick to itself

Edit: removing the backing is easy i figured out a fast way to do it and it works every time. score a line through the backing (shiny side) with a sharp knife then cut through 90% of the tape then after this pull it off the roll. this will stretch the remaining attached part and leave you a ready peeled corner to then pull it off easily.I think half the bad reviews on here are because they didnt take the backing off which is understandable there is nothing at all on the label telling you it has a backing for a start and secondly its so difficult to remove but once you realize this you can get the backing off and it works quite well, iot sticks to itself very well. the backing is on the back/top side of the tape i.e. not the under/bottom side which is sticky and the reason it wont work well if you dont take the backing off is because it doesnt stick well to the backing.i have added some photo's which should help people decide if they want to buy it or not. personally, even though im giving it 3 stars i would recommend it. the reason i am giving 3 stars is the difficulty to use. one of the photo's shows what it looks like on a tool once youve peeled the backing, and another one shows the backing separate and the tape peeled.i usually buy the cheap stuff with the clear cellophane backing which is thicker but it is softer. this stuff is thinner but its good value for a 10m roll and i think because its not as soft as the cheap ones it will last longer.It does stick to itself very well when used correctly but the manufacturer needs to put a warning or a note on the label saying it has a backing, i think if they do they will probably get more sales

The biggest problems with this brand is the clear polythene film the roll is wrapped in, somehow has amalgamated to the tape itself making it extremely difficult to unpack. Other than that the tape seems to be good quality and there is plenty of it on the roll.

👉 Ce ruban de réparation, d’étanchéité auto-amalgamant et auto-vulcanisant est l’un des 3 rubans que j’ai utilisés pour parfaire l’étanchéité des tuyaux et raccordements ou accessoires de ma piscine. J’utilise souvent, et depuis des années, ce type de rubans qui peuvent convenir pour une multitude d’utilisation : étanchéité de plomberie et raccordements, réparations rapides, fixations rapides, attache de câbles électriques, etc.💡 Le fonctionnement est simple : on enlève le film de protection, on coupe un morceau, on l’étire d’environ le double de sa longueur initiale et on l’enroule sur lui-même en appuyant bien, il se « soude », se « vulcanise » alors sur lui-même et devient parfaitement étanche, ça forme une unité, d’ailleurs il devient totalement impossible de décoller les différents morceaux enroulés sur eux même, puisqu’ils ne forment plus qu’un seul morceau, il faut des ciseaux ou un cutter pour couper l’unité caoutchouteuse ainsi formée. On vérifie si on a mis assez d’épaisseur et si l’étanchéité est assurée sinon on peut en rajouter autant que nécessaire (plus large, plus épais, jusqu’à ce que l’on ait obtenu le résultat attendu). Il est également important que le ruban propose une bonne adhérence sur son support et nous allons voir que l’un des trois rubans ne tient malheureusement pas ses promesses !👉 J’ai utilisé 3 rubans différents :► Tesa - Joint auto-amalgamant robuste pour conditions extrêmes - 25 mm x 3 mètres - ASIN AMAZON : B005DRE60U - https://amzn.to/2InYp3c► « 3M » - « Scotch 23 » - 25 mm x 5 mètres - ASIN AMAZON : B075DFFGHL - https://amzn.to/2IrmWVj► Fixman - Ruban de réparation Auto-amalgamant - 25 mm x 10 mètres - ASIN AMAZON : B00FHXGG4O - https://amzn.to/2IhqAAI👉 Le plus fin est le Tesa, le 3M est intermédiaire et le Fixman est le plus épais.👉 La pellicule de protection est facile à enlever sur le Tesa et sur le 3M, plus délicate à enlever sur le Fixman, mais on y arrive quand même !👉 Ils sont tous les trois faciles à étirer.👉 L’absence d’auto-adhérence sans étirement est parfaite sur le 3M et le Fixman (si le ruban entre en contact avec lui-même on le décolle facilement), problématique sur le Tesa qui a tendance à se coller trop facilement sur lui-même, on perd des bouts pour rien.► Appréciation de l’utilisation pour étanchéifier des raccordements PVC :👍 Le Fixman et le 3M sont parfait, 3-4 tours au niveau du raccordement et c’est étanche.👎 Pour le Tesa, comme signalé dans un autre commentaire, l’eau parvient à voyager sous le ruban jusqu’à ses extrémités, c’est sans doute dû à une adhérence insuffisante au support.👎 Même en rajoutant des tours et en élargissant l’enroulage, l’eau finit par ressortir aux extrémités. Je n’avais jamais constaté ce phénomène avant.👍 En rajoutant deux tours de 3M à une extrémité et deux tours de Fixman à l’autre extrémité le problème est réglé.►►► Bilan : je ne conseille pas le Tesa, qui pourtant vendu comme ruban très haut de gamme et « premium » et « conditions extrêmes » n’arrive pas à la cheville des deux autres et ne tient pas ses promesses.►►► Le 3M et le Fixman sont excellents tous les deux. La protection du Fixman est un peu plus délicate à enlever (il faut parvenir à glisser un ongle entre le ruban et la protection, rien de bien méchant) mais le tarif rattrape très largement ce tout petit désagrément.📦✍😃 J'espère ne rien avoir oublié et que ce commentaire vous permettra de faire votre choix.
