Hot Pursuit (Hotshot Heroes)

Good story, enjoyed it.

I like for a book to start where the last left off,but the characters to be the same as the last not so much. It's a good read for those of you who enjoy action drama.

I’ve stated time and again that your typical romance novel is a fantasy. It’s just that some fantasies are better written than others. (Spoiler: This isn’t one of them.)Arson has been a problem lately for firefighter Braden Zimmer. The arsonist has been targeting Braden, his Hotshot team and their loved ones and the fires break out only when the Hotshots are in town.So, yeah, security is an issue. Thus, when a threatening note is left unnoticed and Sam McRooney walks in unimpeded by a locked door, I’m already shaking my head at the nonsense. When it’s followed up with the female protagonist meeting the male just after he’s had a shower and is wearing nothing but a strategically placed towel that keeps slipping, it’s hard not to smile.Sam has been sent to investigate and he’s already having difficulty accepting her presence because a) she’s a woman b) she’s a slightly built woman c) she’s very pretty and d) he’s attracted to her. So he wanders away without the protection she’s arranged for him and follows him home…whereupon she once again encounters him wearing a towel.Overcome by her presence, he gives in to the concupiscence tingling in his loins and kisses her, in spite of the fact that he’s come home to find a gasoline-soaked bale of hay near his front door. Fantasy! Comedy! Lust is busting out all over!Then a Molotov cocktail is thrown through his window and it’s back to business. The novel veers from one pole to the other, with Sam and Braden getting busy in all sorts of places while worrying about this arsonist who insists on spoiling their fun by setting more fires.Apparently, it’s too much to expect these kiddies to put their heated romance on the back burner until the mysterious pyromaniac is caught, not while they’re hot for each other. Sam is gorgeous and Braden is one enticing walking piece of eye candy. We know he’s got a great bod because of all the situations in which Sam finds him topless and his friends (eager to get him laid) tell her how he got his clothes torn by man-hungry females because they thought he was a stripper.Huh. If I were in Sam’s shoes, I’d be asking just what situation a man has to be in for women to make that sort of assumption. Was he at a bachelorette party or what? But it sets the tone for their relationship.This is the kind of romantic fantasy pitched towards women who like their men big, hunky, luscious and available. Sam is more or less capable at her job and thankfully doesn’t let Braden stop her from carrying out her duties. At one point, he tries carrying her out from a fire only to be stopped when she yells at him to put her down and grab a fire extinguisher. But she winds up in a Damsel in Distress situation and there are too many sexual tomfooleries between them for me to give her much credit.For the ladies who like their man candy in firemen gear—grab a hold of that hose and let fly.

I hate when a character is described as good/great at their job and the story proves they are anything but.
