The Telegraph: General Knowledge Crosswords 1 (The Telegraph Puzzle Books)

The questions are good and I was plannng to buy more, but the layout is awful. I can't handle all the page turning back and forth to read the clues. I tear out the question pages, but even so it's awkward. I won't buy any more.

Another reviewer said it for me already. You have to turn over the page to read the clues before entering them into the crossword. Really, really irritating. Also the quality of the paper is horrible, and I didn't read the small print - wasn't expecting this book to be so small. I am used to The Times2 Jumbo crossword books. Good size, good paper.

Some of the knowledge needed to complete these is specialized rather than general and some of the answers are simply wrong. For example in puzzle 19 the clue for 17 across is "village in Cambridgeshire, also a variety of cheese made in only 3 counties in England." The answer should surely be "Stilton." but the book gives the answer as "Clinton". There is no such village in Cambridgeshire and I have never heard of a cheese of this name.

I never fail to learn, never fail to laugh and puzzle at things discovered in a corner of my mind needed for a GK crossword. Also better than any tranquillizer or sleeping pill when used at night.

Repeats and repeats clues. And a lot of the subjects are very specialist like mythology constellations chemical elements & geology...

We like the questions in this book, more general that the Sun Telegraph ones, which are sometimes a bit abstract. We have completed all 6 books of them, so were looking for something else. Only gripe is that we find it very awkward having to keep turning the pages for the questions, so we have to cut them out to make it easier

You need a knowledge of sport, classical music, paintings, & politics, as well as standard general knowledge

Good GK crosswords. You just need to realise that some answers are out of date...
