Bottom line: use with caution. Beware of wall attachment loosening with time. Test frequently. I have bought two of these bars. My experience is mixed. The first held well for months then lost its grip and no longer can be attached securely. The second which I bought after the first failed, is not subjected to water in the shower, unlike the first, and is still holding strong months later. With both I took great care to make sure that the smooth, the glossy ceramic tile was meticulously clean: I removed hard water and soap deposits, polished with an automotive polishing compound, and wiped down with alcohol. I then pressed hard against the suction cups when engaging the fastening lever. I found that pressing hard is essential. Be sure to use to use only on meticulously clean, glossy, ceramic tile or glass. You should periodically test the grab bar attachment. If you reattach, meticulously clean the wall and suction cups. Be cautious If the bars must be relied on when highly loaded, as would happen when arresting a fall in the shower or grabbed by a heavy person.

If you dont want to (or cant in a rental space) drill holes in your bathroom walls, these suction cup grab bars are excellent. The suction does not last forever - so be careful to check the bars from time to time to be sure the suction is still strong. Easy to re-apply them if the suction gets weak.

They come off the wall too easily, which is dangerous for an old person.

It's probably obvious to most people but until you get them home you don't realize that if these suction cups don't exactly line up on a perfectly flat surface of your shower wall, they will not stick and they will be dangerous to use. I have a shower and tub insert with faux grout lines, and because of those indentations, the suction cups are too close together to miss one of those lines. This would be true if you had actual grout lines too. In the end we were able to get one handle installed with a suction cup on two square faux tiles and once we did, they were practically unmovable. Great product, excellent suction, just make sure you have enough flat surfaces without grout lines to install them on. UPDATE: even installing on flat tiles, these eventually fall off. My husband put them on again and tugged and they seemed strong but later on we were in another room and heard something fall and it was the handle falling off the wall again. So I think you cannot have even the right size tiles for these handles, they will absolutely not stay.
