I love rice. I grew up in the Far East where, like many others, we used to make our own household blend of rice: Thai Jasmine for the fragrance, Australian long grain for the bite ("mouth feel"!) and Chinese for taste, texture and balance.I like camargue red rice, wild rice (only not a "rice" for true pedants), Bhutanese red rice, Basmati etc, but Nerone rice is one I could return to again and again.It has an deeply aromatic and complex bouquet which really best accompanies more richly flavoured foods: Slow cooked roast, or shellfish rather than white fish on its own.I cook it in around 1.7x the volume of stock / broth in a covered pan for around 35 minutes at the lowest heat. All the water should have been absorbed but the rice should just be a little moist (more so than other rices). There will be a thick purple patinaat the bottom of the pan which should be carefully stirred back into the rest of the rice.

Love this rice! takes a bit longer to cook, and water colour becomes mauve, but it is super tasty and full of fibre. A little goes a long way, and it also looks gorgeous, especially alongside a butternut squash/sweet potato curry.Highly recommended.

Really pleased with this rice it's the first black rice I've bought after enjoying it in a Mindful Chef meal recently. I boiled it for 35mins rinsed it & put back in the pan with a small knob of butter to heat through. It has a nutty texture & lovely flavour I did with a piece of cod, it suits fish a shame to waste on a curry. I don't enjoy wholemeal rice and this is much better for you.

If you haven't try it yet, you must. I love it, don't buy any other rice. Don't mistake it with a wild rice. It's a special variety, I think, a cross of wild and risotto. Very nutritious and have less carbs and more fibre than brown rice.
