Tank versus tank-killer on the Eastern Front...
The German invasion of the Soviet Union in 1942 matched a superbly experienced war machine against an army just recovering from years of pre-war purges. It also brought the German face-to-face with the T-34 tank, a simple but lethal battlefield opponent, available in huge numbers. While Germany fielded new tanks, it was forced to rely on modified Ju 87 dive bombers to try to even the odds. This new Osprey Duel Series book closely examines that encounter. The development of the T-34 and Ju 87 are explored in some detail before getting to the payoff discussion about their duel on the battlefields of the Eastern Front. The results may surprise even experienced students of the conflict. Well recommended to that audience.

A good book, might have been better!
A fairly good book, that was better than I expected. Since both the Stuka & T-34 have been covered in other Duel books, I was afraid that I was going to get the same information recycled. Fortunately, that did not occur. New information was presented on both machines that I had not read before making the first part an interesting read. The artwork and pictures as always were excellent.. Including information about other Stuka pilots other than Rudel was also a welcome additions to the book. The combat descriptions were good, explaining how the Stukas attacked their targets was interesting. The only thing I found lacking was what if any measures did the Soviets take to counter the Stuka attacks. Obviously they did something as one of the pilots the author covered was shot down & killed while attacking T-34s. Was the Soviet doctrine to have the infantry riding on the tanks to fire their personal weapons against the Stukas or did they develop mobile AA units to provide protection for the tanks while on the move. I believe that would have been of interest to the readers.

Excellent osprey duel.
Flammenbomben , Splitterbomben and Soviet tanks. Always interested in the iconic Stuka and T-34 and those horrendous battles on the ost front. Mainly the stuff about operation blau and Stalingrad.

It's good.... but...
Usual excellent photos and illustrations.However.... calling it a *duel* is a tad misleading.First 22 pages looking at development of T-34 and Ju87... fair enough. Then we look at Ju87 D + G.... T34 - gun /armour etcIMHO this book needed to be much more focused:20mm v 30mm cannon on D/G.... cutaways, variants, destructive power of *shells*. Specifics!Cutaway /illustration of *Extra protection* on Ju 87 D/G. More *charts* etcOf course Rudel is referenced.... as he should.. but...T34: give us something *different*: how did it's protection change? What about anti ground attack defence weapon?More SPECIFICS about damage limitation attempts etc.3* is a very fair *mark*
