Q: Is it normal to cycle? I installed it and it works but, it powers on for 30 seconds and then off for 13 seconds. Then on for 45 seconds and then off.

Make sure the magnetic thermostat is attached more towards the center of the UNDERSIDE of the floor of the burn chamber. The thermostat works when the floor of the fireplace reaches 125 degrees. If it is to far forward the cool air coming in will shut the blower down until the temp goes back up this causing a cycling effect. Hope that helps

Yes you need both. The thermostat and dial (rheostat) will fit in that space.

Don’t know but it spins smoothly. I’ve installed 3 of these blowers for myself and 2-friends.

Not sure about the "tubes" you are referring to. This unit is designed to be placed at the back of your fireplace to intake air from the lower front and push it up the backside of the fireplace and out the top vent picking up hot air as it does so. Works well. Not sure if that is an option for your setup
