Great ticket to ride extension pack game featuring India and Switzerland
I started with Europe, then brought the Nordic ticket to ride and have now got this extension pack that features a double sided board and two packs of destination cards for both countries. One side is India at the time of the Raj and the other side is Switzerland with bordering countries shown. Please note that you need to have ticket to ride USA or Europe to play it as there are no 'train pieces', 'counters' or 'carriage cards'. Although the premises of all ticket to ride games are similiar - each country always has slight differences. The India game is good for just 2 or 3 players as you can get quite competitive trying to take control of all the tiny routes in the middle of India. There is also extra points if you have encircled your destinations in a 'mandela'. I quite enjoy this, but it is not worth trying to create them especially as you could get as many points taking the longer routes around the coast which are worth a lot of points. Switzerland is very different - and because it features the boundaries of France, Germany, Italy and Austria on the board, you need to be quite strategic in your thinking to get a route into these additional countries. A lot of the destination cards give you a huge amount of extra points if you have. So it is not only about the number of destinations that you have covered but also how many of the cards you have picked up that give you extra points for connecting all the other european countries. As with all ticket to ride games this extension pack is well made and attractive. The games strategies and ways of getting points are very different so each country provides a good contrast. I have thoroughly enjoyed both countries - India is better with just a couple of players, Switzerland with more.

Fab game for kids and adults
This was bought for my 8yo for Christmas and it's proved a hit all round! I had seen it advertised but wasn't sure but it's a good game of strategy. My 8 yo likes strategy games like chess, Battleships, Cluedo and this is along those strategy lines. The more people playing, the longer the game goes on but it's still fun with 2. In the past as a family, we used to play and love 'Journey Through Europe' and it's on a similar theme to that. The first time we played, the purchaser had already played the adult version so we had a help learning the rules but I don't think it'd be that hard to pick up normally. Once you start playing it makes or sense.

Excellent addition to the Ticket to Ride family of games
This is an excellent addition to the Ticket to Ride family of games - it adds new cards and new issues - so new challenges. After the original ticket to ride and Europe ticket to ride this is the next best and great because of the new map and new terrain cards which simulates the difficulty of building railways into the 'heart of darkness'. Please note this is an expandsion pack and you must have the original Ticket to Ride to play - as you need the pieces and cards from the main game.

The variation of playing with a partner : challenging
This game can be played individually or as a pair but beware - there will be disputes. Thoroughly enjoyed the variation and working with another, but you need to think on the same lines as your partner. Our husband and wife team ended up fraught!

Where do I start...a letter to the manufacturers
Here's the email I've just sent to the manufacturers of this game: Hello! We are completely obsessed with Ticket to Ride Europe! What a fantastic game! However, we bought Ticket to Ride the Heart of Africa and I'm so distressed that I felt compelled to write to you. Where do I start? First, on the front of the box is a depiction of a white-colonial-adventurer-type-guy, alongside a man, who I can only imagine is what the creators of the game thought the white-colonial-adventurer-type-guy might have met on his conquest 100 years ago? I wonder whether you've realised how damagingly stereotypical this is, as well as being profoundly outdated and out of touch. My husband is from Sierra Leone, and I can assure you that no one he knows dresses like this. Our children are growing up mixed race in the UK, and I can assure you that such depictions are incredibly unhelpful not just for them, but for white children that see them. Please would you consider changing the images to bring your game into the 21st century? Secondly, I note that the map of Africa is based on the 1910 depiction of the continent, which happens to be when the British, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Belgian and Ottoman colonial boundaries were established, with the ONLY independent African States being Abyssinia, Morocco, and Liberia. Wow, never in my wildest imagination did I think it was possible that in 2022 a game for families would be sold where the colonial boundaries were being used, rather than the boundaries of proud independent African countries. Please would you consider changing the boundaries to bring your game into the 21st century? Thirdly, I note that only half the continent is showing, you appear to have missed off the top half, so everything north of Nigeria. Please would you consider changing the map on the board game to actually reflect the entire continent of Africa because at the moment you are mis-selling. Europe appears to be depicted in all its fulness on the Ticket to Ride Europe version. Fourthly, at the top of the instructions it says "a ticket to ride expansion set in the vast wilderness of Africa at the height of its exploration by intrepid explorers, missionaries and adventurers." Well I say, haven't we been a little selective with our historical memories... I don't even know where to begin on this subject. I think it's just time to completely review the map, the illustrations and the messaging. Unfortunately I'll be returning this expansion kit as I cannot possibly subject my children to it. Anyone who does, probably needs a little history lesson. I really do look forward to hearing from you and would love to buy the Africa expansion set in its new format. In anticipation of your response and thanking you for your time.
