You do need some culinary skills but if you have that then give it a go. The tips and tricks in this book will also help you in your more normal cooking. All in all this book is well worth it even though it was written quite a while ago. It stands the test of time and your family and friends will be amazed at what you can produce in your own kitchen. Prepared to get hooked I did - see the photo!! Review: great gift - great gift for a cooking lover, definitely recommend, great qualiry

Birthday gift
An expensive large hard backed book that I bought on offer and paid over 3 payments, making this book more affordable and also a very beautiful addition to any cookery book library which I’m sure will now be used and owned for years

A serious and wondrous recipe book...
This is not just a weighty volume but full of amazing recipes from the once No1 restaurants in the world, it most certainly gets the gastric juices flowing. This book is a must for any serious food lover but sadly a lot of the recipes have ingredients that are not readily available for the gifted amateur not at a cost that many family budgets could stretch to, but for a treat or gift it to a food lover buy it anyway just to read, digest and enjoy.

Good looking book - maybe for the coffee table unless you are a budding Master Chef!
Bought as a requested present. Looks good, but recipes aren't for the faint hearted! Not sure if it was asked for as a coffee table book or they will be embarking on the recipes! Nice looking book though!

Using as a cookbook!
This book is amazing. I do have Heston's 6 kg among others, but this book still helped me to learn a few handy tips, a few new ideas and of course shows beautiful pictures of the food. Keller has a very clear and good idea or maybe even ideology of the produce, food, cooking and presentation. The man knows what he does and most importantly why he does. The instructions are easy to follow, the tips useful. The end result is always perfect for the occasion. (As Mr. Keller himself promises) I love this, and am kicking myself for not buying this earlier. If you are even half ambitious with your food, please do buy this book. I am now planning a trip to USA just to visit him and Mondavi.

Beautiful and impressive cookbook
I had not heard of Thomas Keller and bought this book as a present for my other half who is a superb cook, and does not mind how fiddly or time consuming a recipe might be, as long as the end result is worth the effort. He fell in love with this book straight away, as I knew he would. It really is a beautiful book, well laid out with stunning photography and superbly crafted dishes. I'm so glad that I saw it, read the other reviews and decided to buy it.

Behind the pretentious waffle....
Behind the pretentious waffle there are some quite straight forward recipes in here. There is a lot of pomp and elaborate ceremony that would put off many half decent cooks from what is quite basic technique. Some recipes require three days of prep. Though regaling your guests with the tales of preperation always impresses. Nothing has ever been less than superb and it is well worth the effort and money. There aren't that many recipes for such a large book and removing the waffle the entire book could be cut down to just a pocket sized paperback, but having said that it still gives the best return on your investnment of your time amd money.
