Pump It Up Move It, Lose It [DVD]

Fun, but a bit rushed and more complicated than previous MoS workouts
Being a huge fan of Gareth Walker's 'Pump it Up' workouts, I'm bound to be a bit biased! But unfortunately, for me this DVD just isn't quite as good as the previous Gareth-led ones. It's still full of great dance moves and a fantastic soundtrack, and follows the 'usual' Pump it Up format, i.e. warm up, toning, Dancemixes 1, 2 and 3 (all about 15 minutes each), 'legs, bums and tums' then a cooldown. There isn't much distinction between Dancemixes 1, 2 and 3 except that Dancemix 2 is a more 'Latin'-style workout, obviously inspired by Zumba. Unfortunately, I found the new presenter a bit dull and uninspiring (though this is obviously just my personal taste); although he explains all the moves well he rushes through them all at a very fast pace and there are so many that you're in danger of forgetting them by the time you get to the final run-through!The faster pace of this presenter is a little at odds with the fact that some of the moves are quite a bit more complicated and advanced than previous 'Pump it Up' workouts (especially when I got to Dancemix 3 which had me tripping over my feet a bit!) I would think that you need to be a dancer, familiar with previous 'Pump it Up' DVDs, and/or do Zumba classes to be able to pick them up properly as you go - I wouldn't recommend this DVD to a complete beginner or someone who just wants to get stuck in straight away. None of the routines use traditional 'aerobics'; the emphasis is heavily on club/dance moves, so if you want to learn some moves for a night out this will be your thing! And it's a good 'sweaty' workout too, as long as you're able to keep up.The 10-odd minute 'tone' and 'legs, bums and tums' follow the usual 'Pump it Up' format and can be adapted for beginners. For me, this loses a star for its lack of the 'fun and flamboyance' factor - I just didn't smile as much doing this DVD as I have with some of the others! But it is still a great option if you're a fan of dance-based workout DVDs and want to be a bit challenged.

Fun, challenging work out
I was surprised to read the other reviews in which people said they weren't able to remember the moves in these dancemixes. I have terrible coordination and am generally not a very good dancer, but I am able to do these routines. It takes a few goes before you get the hang of it, obviously, but that's part of the fun. Most people, excluding professional dancers, wouldn't get this down the first time through, but then again if you could do it straight away, you'd get bored after one run through! You get out what you put in. The challenge is, first, being able to follow and do most of the moves, then perfecting them. It's also a really good aerobic work out and even the first time you try this out you'll break a sweat. If you enjoy exercise and the type of dance music featured in this dvd then you'll probably love it, but you need to keep at it and by about the 3rd go (that's how long it took me anyway..) it will all start coming together. I have two other Pump It Up work out dvds and I just wish I had a bigger space to practice them in, as I'd probably do them daily on rotation! I <3 Pump It Up!!!!!!!! This one is also a bit more funky than some of the other Pump It Up work outs, with a hot presenter and the girls have beautiful, toned (but achievable) curvy figures.

Loved it!
This work out is my current favourite! I love dancing and the soundtrack is brilliant! The teaching style is definitely different to some of the other Pump It Up's and the teacher isn't quite as quirky as Gareth but he gives good instruction and although the pace can be a little quick with teaching the moves after a few goes you pick it up and there is always the rewind button if you really need it.I picked this up quicker than the Pump It Up Dance Mix which took me a couple of weeks to master and I thought that the dance moves were fun and current and once you get the hang of them a great work out. I enjoy the latin inspired work out most although I find this the easiest one to pick up and it isn't quite as aerobic for me as the other two.I particularly like that you can mix and match the work out between the five options to have a real long work out or just a short one. The Toning section has a ton of squats so beware and the legs, bums and tums I thought is a great, as yet I haven't made it through the whole thing without taking a small break (usually around the time of the plank or/and the static leg exercise for the butt which kills!!)If you don't enjoy dancing or are a little rhythmically challenged this probably isn't the one for you and fitness wise it might not be the best starting place for beginners but if you are intermediate or advanced I think it is a great work out and with the five different sections good value for money!

Having a good time
I'm 25-35. I did this dvd once. I did all the three dancemixes + warm up and cool down. All the dancemixes were easy to follow and fun. If you're familiar with the previous pump it up dvds, you should't have any difficulties learning the moves. Personally, I might not be a great dancer but I enjoy working out and having a good time at the same time.I have a feeling that this dvd is not so high impact when compared to some of the previous pump it up dvds (at least when doing the dancemixes only), so it will be perfect for those days between the gym sessions.Minuses:Jay is nice, but should be more relaxed, showing you that he truly truly loves his own routines. There is a lot of a "base step" which is great when you start learning the routines. But might be a waste of time once you master all the moves. The lights in the background are a bit annoying.I give this dvd 5 stars, because I know I will be using it a lot. It's got great routines, great music and great dancers. Exactly what I was looking for.
