Howzat?
I bought the book as a 80th birthday present for one of my uncles, who is a very keen cricket fan. The book provides details of the main Test Match cricket grounds of the major cricketing competitors: Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka and the West Indies. There is also a chapter on other cricket stadiums in Bangladesh, the Middle East and Zimbabwe. The map showing where the grounds are in each country was useful and I was pleasantly surprised that there are 9 major grounds in New Zealand. .Although I knew the names of the English cricket grounds listed in the book and where they are located, I was unfamiliar with the grounds in the other countries. When I heard on the radio today, that Australia had beaten India in the Cricket World Cup final, at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad, it was useful to look up the details of the ground. I was slightly dis-appointed that Scarborough wasn’t listed in the England section. A friend, whom I worked with, is a cricket fanatic and always took the week off in the summer, to attend the Scarborough Cricket festival, but I digress. The design of the book is well thought out: for each ground there is a good selection of pictures, mainly in colour, and the text provides a brief history of the ground along with Test Match stats, which I’m sure cricket fans will appreciate. There are also details of notable Test matches played at the ground, with more information on scores in a particular match. The book provides an interesting introduction to the international cricket grounds, and I like the format – the combination of photographs and information on each ground. Although I am not a cricket fan, I will give the book four stars, not out.

Beautiful coffee table book.
The Times has done it again with a quality and insightful coffee table book. I bought it for my father as part of his cricket collection and he couldn't be happier. For the price, I would highly recommend it as a gift or a cricket fan.

A uniquely joyous celebration honouring where this great game is played. It's well thought out and is a great pictorial and narrative homage to historic pitches past and present. A number of misprints and proof-reading errors are annoying, but only distract a little from what is largely an enjoyable read.
