There are a lot of mixed reviews about this router online, I have to admit the design is pretty poor it's not very functional, however, The range is excellent, and the speeds are great, I wish it had more than just one 2.5 gigabit port. Set up was easy, a lot of advance configurations. Was pretty much plug and play and I could tweak it the way i want. I also like how I can schedule the router to automatically restart, anyone with experience knows that the most common problem with routers is just needing a simple restart. The router firmware is better than previous versions, I'm enjoying the VPN fusion.

I picked this up partly because I’m a big IT nerd and wanted something more customizable for my home network—and partly because I was struggling to get Airlink working well with my Quest 3. Nothing else I tried gave me a stable connection, but this router totally delivered. For the price, it’s a great deal. You get a bunch of enterprise-level features like VPN support, firewall controls, and more. But despite all that, it’s still really user-friendly. Setup was super easy, so even if you just want a strong, no-fuss router, this one’s a solid choice. I mainly use the 6GHz band for Airlink and the 5GHz band for everything else. The wireless VR experience has been the smoothest I’ve ever had—no lag, no drops. Plus, the 5GHz signal easily covers my entire apartment. Even the unboxing experience was nice. The build quality is exactly what you’d expect from Asus—solid and reliable. Honestly, I don’t see myself needing to replace this until Wi-Fi 9 shows up and starts pushing 1 Tbps or something wild like that. 10/10 would recommend!

My network spans 3 floors, can run up to four FireTV Streaming Cubes simultaneously, and supports TP link-Alexa lights, and seven Wyze Cameras. I run an ASUS mesh network with Routers as mesh nodes. My main router is an ASUS AX600 WiFi 6. Most all other nodes support Triband WiFi. One FireTV was giving me operating fits (stream drops, slow response and more) Download speed varied over WiFi. With FireTV WiFi gives the highest speed because the wired Ethernet port is only 100 Mbps operating around 80 Mbps. WiFi 6 speeds can range from 100 Mbps to 400 Mbps+. I purchased the RT-AXE7800 to match the WiFi 6E of the FireTV cube. Mixing ASUS WiFi 6 and WiFi 63 in the same ASUS mesh network became an intolerable mess. I am sure ASUS will solve this but this is an issue now. The ASUS mesh networks continually adjust depending upon the load. If you have a simpler mesh network computers and streaming TVs, operation would be better. My mix is a different story. I got the main router in a state where it would not respond so I had to use the RT-AXE7800 as the main router. It worked but lacked the robustness demanded by my load. This router would be fine in a two streaming TV network, supporting a gamer or two, and in a situation where a moderately priced WIFI 6E was needed. The ASUS menus are complex so the mesh is not easy to tweak up. Still testing that. If you are a novice to mesh networking just remember the most important rule: "Defaults work best". The Amazon WiFi 6E mesh would likely be best for you. As always the Amazon return policy is outstanding. I could not keep this router because it created more problems than it solved. They understood.

I replaced two older routers with new releases. This router was amazing. Easy to set up and and it auto - optimized the network. [CELL PHONE REQUIRED!} I downloaded the app onto my ios phone and setup was complete in less than 5 minutes. AMAZING. I was so impressed. The second router (also a new release) by N took 30 minutes to set up. It also required a cell phone app to install and coverage was better than my older router. It was simply not in the same class as this router. This router was placed in the basement, and the N router was placed on the first floor of my two story home. Now I receive signal from both this router and the N router from an upstairs bedroom. I would only have purchased this router if I knew how much better it was when I purchased them both. Specs are set for 2030 network speeds so I won't need to upgrade again for quite a while. And I don't worry that my data is being sent to China from this unit.

Purchased end of July, as of writing (Oct 5th) it has bricked itself and reboots every 11 minutes. Has progressively gotten worse over the small time I've owned it, starting with ethernet dropping off briefly and getting to the point where I could no longer do anything where a stable connection was required. I have spent hours and days trying to troubleshoot this problem. I work in l the IT field, with networking as a background, so consumer grade product is nothing out of my pervew. If you could find a troubleshooting suggestion, I've done it. Turn off reboot scheduler, auto firmware checks off, reboot, reset, save reset and upload config, manually upload firmware, roll back firmware, scoured the log files to find the system thinking it's different dates multiple times in the log (starting Oct 4th then the date is May then back to Oct back to May) Telnet into the router to navigate to the AI protection file to delete it in order for it to be recreated (helped for 30 min then problem came back), changes NTP server, various settings Turing on and off, looked on Merlins site to see if they had an alternate firmware only to find this router isn't supported. I can go on, but I have gone farther than the lay person usually goes and am not wasting anymore of my time on a product that is obviously not being supported by them. I found a support page for the AX89 with over 200 responses from people with the exact same problem as me, and even same log file outputs showing where the crash happens, and reboots. This was from back in May of 23' and their products are still suffering from this issue. I hear glowing things about the Asus networking arm, and people love their stuff, but I honestly am done. For this price point, it should be rock solid requiring minimal servicing, not deep diving into the operating system in command line. I'm way past the refund period, but I'm going to talk to my credit card company about a refund because this product is a lemon, and I'm not going to sit with an expensive paperweight from a company that has such a significant problem and still hasn't resolved it. I know Amazon won't do anything, so not going to bother trying with them. Rant over TL;DR router has a memory leak, bad software / firmware for almost a year and still not resolved by company. Not worth anyone's headache if need to troubleshoot yourself because it is a lemon.

Been using this router for a couple weeks now and love it! I personally love seeing detailed, random stats/info on myself I would otherwise have no info on and this scratches that itch perfectly! No subscription, no “premium” options, nothing. Just buy the router, get the service. Traffic analysis is my favorite since I can see exactly what devices and even what apps/websites are taking up the most data, historically and currently. I don’t seem to have any signal issues anywhere in my apartment (two levels, 1200sqft) and the 6Ghz band is INCREDIBLE. Literally indistinguishable from wired speeds in my scenario (Spectrum 500down, 20 up. Far from maxing out this device) in the same room and through 3-4 walls I only noticed a slight drop in download (but upload remained the same). Obviously with different services you might notice more differences but with my 500/20 service that has been my experience and it’s been really good! For the parents, you can limit tons of things per device for your children. Limit websites, useable, etc. for their device ONLY so you can still have fully control on your own! Overall, this is a very nice router that will serve you well for years to come unless you already have multi gigabit speeds, but for the majority, this is a great option!

Our neighborhood finally got access to fiber internet and my trusty AC1750 router couldn't keep up with the new 940 Mbps up/down speeds. I was able to set up the AXE-7800 in just a few minutes and the performance is fantastic. (I did buy a Cat 6 cable to connect the fiber modem to the router instead of using the included Cat 5e cable). The screenshot showing 874 Mbps down/823 up is from my laptop separated from the router by 20 ft and 3 walls. Even in the furthest reaches in the basement of my house, I'm getting 300 down/150 up, which is more than adequate for my needs. I hope this router will be reliable over the long term, but so far I'm very happy. Additional thoughts after a week: The Wifi 6E feature is less useful than anticipated. I'm basically only using Wifi 6 because the range drop-off for the 6 GHz band is pretty harsh. Close the router, 6E performance is fantastic. 10 feet away with a direct line of sight, I get my full 940/940 speeds on Wifi. But anywhere more than 15 feet away from the router and if there are walls in the way, I'm getting better performance on the 5Ghz/2.4Ghz bands. My laptop can't even detect the 6Ghz connection if I'm in the basement. I guess 6E would be useful in an environment with too much interference in the 5Ghz/2.4Ghz bands but it doesn't really do too much for me. I don't think it's the fault of this router, just a limitation of the technology. Second, the ethernet port: I found that my fiber modem and this router aren't able to communicate at 2.5 Gb through the high speed LAN port. Maybe it's my fiber modem's fault, but the router/modem only used it as a 1 gb LAN port. Thankfully, this router has WAN aggregation where it lets you plug in two 1 Gb ethernet cables into the router. It was pretty easy to set up and it seems to be better, especially handling concurrent traffic up and down. Lastly, it's been stable with no drops. I'm still glad I chose this router.

Works great for Quest3 and QuestPro for wireless PCVR gaming. I'm using the ASUS RT-AXE7800 as a dedicated PCVR router (no other devices connected to it). The 6 Ghz band allows me to push 500+ mbps bitrate (264 codec) in AirLink with no noticeable latency (playing Contractors Showdown, so good enough for online gameplay). I decided to go with this model as I wanted a good router brand (ASUS), and wanted the 6Ghz band, but didn't want to pay more than $300 for a 6E router. This model has been a great middle ground option. Plus, I went with ASUS over cheaper brands like TP-Link, since ASUS gives you full control over the router settings, and ASUS is great for providing continuous, multi-year support for their routers (my previous RT-AC68p was receiving firmware updates 5+ years after release). Few things to get it optimized for PCVR gaming: since I use it as a dedicated router, I have the 2.4ghz and 5ghz bands disabled. Set the 6ghz bandwidth to 160mhz. Channel selection shouldn't be too much of an issue (select any, or whatever works best for your headset). I personally had to DISABLE 'PSC Channel control' to get it to showup on my Quest3; but maybe PSC will work for you. Disabling PSC allows you to manual pick the channel you want, but some channels don't showup for the headset. I noticed Quest3 works best on Channels lower than 100. TL;DR - if you want a good quality 6E router for the ultimate wireless pcvr setup (AirLink, Virtual Desktop, Steam Link), I highly recommend the ASUS AXE7800.
