The Best Coffee Maker Makes the Best Coffee
I grew up in a house where my parents had used a Chemex coffee maker since 1955. So when my wife moved to 'deplasticise' our kitchen some 8 years ago, we too became avid Chemex users. The simple process produces a clean taste that leaves the 'fancy' machines way behind and with Chemex one never has to worry about contamination from the PET plastics or potentially dirty tubes that you often find in other coffee makers. We chose the Chemex version with a handle due to its convenience, but both the wooden collar and handled versions are icons of style and practicality. However, when I inadvertently broke our Chemex last year we learned that the design to the new models has been ever so slightly changed with a re-shaping of the pour spout. I assume this was done because, with the old design, the wet filter would sometimes block the air gap provided by the pour spout, with a resulting 'burp' as the urn tries to breathe. This would result in a small amount of hot moisture 'spitting' from the spout. Annoying but not tragic, and it was always possible to re-seat the filter so that there would be no spitting. The new design appears to have a deeper spout, making it less likely that the filter will block it and thus the 'spitting' has been remedied. However, another problem has been created as it is almost impossible to pour a full urn without spillage. If one pours too quickly, the coffee surges past the cup. Too slowly and it runs down the side of the urn and spills on the table. There is a 'Goldilocks' angle with no spillage that is possible to achieve, but honestly, I only succeed in getting it right perhaps 10% of the time (and I drink a lot of coffee). Don't get me wrong - I won't be changing my Chemex - the coffee is too good. But I think that the design change has only traded one problem for another. Perhaps it is possible to design a better spout or perhaps there is an option of building ridges into the filter nest to allow the urn to breathe elsewhere.

Great coffee but size is misleading
The Chemex looks great, is easy to use, and I love the coffee that comes out of it. I bought the 3 cup version (as opposed to the 6-cup or larger version) as the intention was just that it would only be used by two people so the 3 cup should've been more than enough. This only holds true if both people like tiny cups of coffee. Ideally it should be marketed as "1 full cup of coffee or 2 small cups of coffee". Great for only one person, a bit inadequate for two people, and no way can you possibly serve three. If you've got 2 or more people using this, spend the extra couple dollars to get the 6 cup version which I regret not getting in hindsight.

Nice present well received - Review from a friend with a Coffee shop
I bought this for my friend/colleague who has now given it a few test runs and says it's a nice nifty product that brews coffee well (He also owns a coffee shop so coming from him this is ticking the right boxes!) It has a really cool/sleek yet simple design, which is great because you don't really need an extravagant device, you just need good coffee! No downsides thus far, I believe it takes a different filter compared to other Chemex products but if you don't have any other related products I suppose this wouldn't be an issue. Looks good on an office desk!

Great Brewer, No Filter Papers ANYWHERE.
The actual product is great - its a Chemex so it comes with all the benefits of looking great and making incredible coffee, but also with the small annoyance of being completely unusable. I bought this about a year ago and once I ran out of the papers I bought it with I could not for the life of me find any more filter papers that fit this brewer - it seems like Chemex has basically washed their hands of this product and just don't sell filter papers in the uk! if anyone knows where I can get some please tell me - I had to buy a hario V60 in the end, who happily sell cheap filter papers that fit a variety of their brewers, and use this Chemex as a vase! to summarise DO NOT BUY THIS unless you want a £35 coffee themed flower holder - get a cheaper hario v60, which isn't nearly as pretty but can at least make coffee!

Glad I'm so easily influenced though
Really bought this because I'd just finished reading 'From Russia With Love' and James Bond had one. Glad I'm so easily influenced though, as it really is a lovely looking piece of equipment. If I have one regret, it's that I bought the 8 cup rather than the 6 cup version - my wife has a little trouble gripping it and so I end up making most of the coffee!

Fantastic product in every way
Looks great in the kitchen and performs even better. I consider making coffee a hobby of mine, and I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys the process of making coffee just as much as drinking it.Can easily tell the difference in coffee quality compared to a French press. This specific size of maker does two medium sized mugs.

Excellent product, very good customer service from Hasbean
Would highly recommend this. I had a damaged product and there was no hesitation in replacing it with a friendly and professional manner (Chris from Hasbean in particular was great). The actual product is excellent, and the process of making coffee is quite satisfying as it's a bit more engaging and hands on than using a cafetiere or aeropress. Would recommend!

One of the best decisions that I have made
I love coffee, and consume a lot of it daily, however I have never used a drip coffee maker before. It became good companion to my good old espresso machine. I am very happy with the taste of the coffee comes out of this product, and it is quite handsome as well, helping to decorate my kitchen.
