Q: Are the usb ports internally isolated, this will not work on a head unit if they are connected via ground and hot.

Not certain what you mean by "internally isolated" but I would say yes. I have the two ports connected to two female port connectors on a new Sony XAV-AX5500 head unit. The hot and ground are supplied to the ports by the head unit. Both ports are functioning.

Q: Does this snap into place or screw into place?

This gets screwed into place with the nut on the backside.

Extension for my in dash entertainment console
