A must read for those interested in hypnosis and NLP
So many wonderful insights of the world of Milton Erickson. There are many examples that have been really helpful in my own life and how I relate to others. Real 'out of the box' thinking that challenges the way the normal route of dealing with phobias, depression, self doubt, etc. Amazing how the surprising suggestions work out for the client, some quite humorous. Recommended reading if you're into hypnosis or NLP. Will add to your own life as well.

Fascinating read
Totally fascinating to read case study after case study of how Erickson gave therapeutic interventions to his clients. The variety and flexibility of approaches is remarkable as is his ingenuity in each instance.Well worth a read given the insight it provides into what trance is and how to motivate change.

The Healing Power of Stories - essential learning for any health professional
I first read this book whilst training to be a General Practitioner over 10 years ago. The idea that I could heal my patients with stories without them even being aware intrigued me. The more examples I read, the more I became convinced of the power of our sub-conscious over our lives. Since then I have always tried to tell my patients the 'right' sort of stories during my consultations. His belief in the healing power of stories led me to publish my own book based on the healing power of cartoons called 'Be Happy Cartoons'. If a picture is worth a thousand words then surely my favourite sort of picture, a cartoon, could be used to heal patients just as Milton Erickson did. I spent a couple of years trying to put ideas that could make people feel happier into cartoon form with the help of cartoonist Swapan Debnath. Together I think we produced something Milton would have liked. I am forever grateful to him. I recommend any doctor, medical student, nurse, carer etc read this book so you will realise the profound influence your words and stories can have on a patient.

Use of the metaphor in hypnotherapy
This book is a collection of stories about Erickson's work with different clients and how he used metaphor to subtly but powerfully influence them. A useful book for any hypnotherapist or budding hypnotherapist (such as myself) or anyone else interested in the subject. It certainly has given me a much deeper understanding of the power of an effective metaphor.

an excellent collection of useful stories
This book presents a collection of stories that Dr Erickson used in his teaching and therapy. It gives no explicit directions on how to do therapy, but it will be highly useful to therapists and non therapists alike. The stories give an insight into how Erickson worked and can be adapted for your own needs or used as they are. These insightful tales could help with your own problems and issues giving the book multiple uses. Essential reading for all therapists and educators looking to harness the power of teaching tales.

Human to human therapist.
This story telling is pure gold. The methods used and arranged by Erickson in the healings and curings of his patients both amused and astounded me.By using shocks, humour, distractions, mirroring or whatever prop appealed Erickson secured success upon success without the use of drugs or their possible side effects. This book highlights the amazing capabilities of the human unconscious to correct imbalances of many of our internal systems. Erickson found the secret of how to get each patient to work out their own resolutions by encouraging a change in their thinking.

very useful
If you're not a hypnotherapist you will probably find this book rather strange. For those of us who work with hypnotherapy there are a lot of useful ideas from the master himself. Some of his patter seems rather obscure so requires some thought, but it's easy to see how much of what Erikson did can be used successfully by hypnotherapists and NLP practitioners alike. I'm glad I bought the book and dip into it whenever I feel like getting some 'light bulb' reading.

Well written
Easy to follow and digest. I imagine that if you had no knowledge of hypnotherapy you would still enjoy reading the short stories contained.
