Love it!
I discovered nutritional yeast about 6 months ago in a quest to cut down on fats in my diet and have gone through many many tubs since then! Nutritional yeast is basically what it says on the tin. It is a form of dried yeast flake and is high in nutritional value and low in fat. It contains B vitamins and is most commonly used as a cheese substitute in sauces for vegans. The taste of nutritional yeast tends to be very subjective. Some people describe it as cheesy, others nutty, some describe it as meaty. I would say it is all of them. It can be used to enhance many dishes in many different forms. I have used it in cheese sauce to cut down/cut out the use of fatty cheese, as a substitute for cheese on toast (sprinkle on bread and spray with a low fat oil spray and grill until melted), added to mashed potato for a cheesy savoury taste, sprinkled on baked potato instead of cheese, sprinkled in vegetable stew to add taste and improve nutrition and in omelettes and quiches in place of cheese, and in adding a meaty taste when making seitan, in fact I add it to loads of things and use it as a general seasoning for anything where you want a savoury taste. I also find it has a very slight thickening element to it although this is no where near like using flour or potato starch for thickening. Nutritional yeast is a very versatile product that requires some experimenting with to be fully appreciated. It is a great product to try if you are vegan or if you just simply want to cut down on fat in your recipes. As I said it really does have to be appreciated to get the full value out of it, it is not a full on cheese tasting cheese substitute but it is very tasty in a mildly cheesy, nutty, savoury, slightly marmitey (In my humble opinion anyway!) way! I love it and will continue to use it by the bucketful!

An acquired taste, perhaps, but vital vegan goodness nevertheless.
Overall, I'm satisfied with these Engevita yeast flakes and would recommend them, especially to other vegans who have perhaps not yet heard of them and their importance in delivering vital B12 to the body.I'm still not entirely convinced about the taste - I'd read that others described them as having a cheesy flavour, but I would say that it's more akin to a cardboard-like, cheese flavour sometimes found on cheap carb snacks. I don't find them entirely distasteful but I doubt I could enjoy them on porridge, for example, as some people have suggested. The word Umami springs to mind.I did make a tomato and basil soup recently and decided to add some flakes - about one serving (5g) - and, although there was a quite distinct aroma at first, they soon blended well with the soup mixture and I was surprised that the tomato and the basil flavours came through as well as they did. I shall add more next time :)Even more recently I popped about 10-12g into a curry and it tastes great. Because of/despite... not sure.Unsurprisingly, perhaps, they do not work well when making bread (at least not so in my limited experience of using them). This could be due to the fact that, as they are deactivated yeast, they also somewhat deactivated the active yeast in my bread mix. The dough did not rise too well, but I still went ahead and baked it anyway, opting instead to make large bread sticks out of the dough, as opposed to a standard loaf shape. They came out pretty well and are well suited for dipping in soups, dips etc. They taste good too.Delivered within the time frame stated (although Amazon seemed to delay taking payment for them until a couple for days after they were delivered, nvm). Will be making further purcheeses in future, for sure (crappy pun intended).

I love it!
This is defintely my go to brand for nutritional yeast and I have been using it for a while! Such value for money getting two tins of this and I'm glad I have a supply to last me a while! I literally use it whenever I can! I add it to dishes that I cook or to salad dressings or simply mixed with some mayonnaise for a dip! I love the flavour of it and the health benefits that come from using it. It has stopped me using salt in some recipes as this gives enough extra flavour by itself. I have been suggesting it to everyone I know and I'm getting people hooked on it too now!!!

Little wonder of goodness
I was hesitant to purchase this item as I don't particularly like ghe flavour of yeast. To my delight, these flakes have a lovely intense cheese flavour. They are thin and crispy and absolutely delightful. So far I have been sprinkling them on food. A potent source of all vitamins B. Thoroughly recommend.

Delicious
Saw a YouTube video that suggested I might need Vitamin B1 and B12 to help with my symptoms of tiredness and anxiety, so decided to try this product. It’s early days, but the most difficult thing so far has been remembering to add it to my savoury dishes. It’s very tasty, similar to cheesy puffs flavour. I’m looking forward to feeling better soon.

I like it
I emphasise that I like it.Not all my household members are so keen on the flavour. Is that a marmite thing ? well it is certainly a yeast based product thing.I use it primarily as a cheese substitute in my cheese sauces. But accept it doesn't taste quite the same.
