Cool and quiet
Cool and quiet! Just how I like it!I went from a Intel 3570K and massive ATX tower to an ITX format with Corsair 250D. Bought the CPU from Amazon for £155, but had to wait a couple of weeks as it was out of stock. I needed a processor that stayed cool and doesn't need a massive after market cooler like my 3570K did. The i5-6600 fits the bill. I use the Intel stock cooler which is more than sufficient even when playing the latest games. The i5-6600 feels noticeable faster when I open websites, but review websites have shown that in gaming there is no difference to the 3570K with discrete GPU. So I don't recommend anyone upgrading from Ivy Bridge to Skylake processors unless you want to move to a silent mini ITX. I run the PC with my existing Palit GTX 980, Samsung 850 Pro and Be Quiet! 400W Gold PSU and the airflow out of the case is not even warm after an hour of Fallout 4. My previous 3570K definitely produced a lot more heat. Overall I'm very happy with the purchase, I finally have a PC that is silent, small, stays cool and is very powerful. Word of advise: Go for a cheap H170 or H110 motherboard over an expensive Z170. The motherboard makes no difference in gaming or office work and the Z170 tend to use more power for nothing in return. Also do not buy an aftermarket cooler. I bought the cheapest motherboard, the cheapest DDR4 RAM. Spend that money on a GTX970 or 980 and a Samsung 850 SSD. Those components make a difference. RAM and motherboard don't.

Get the 6600K and a Z170 board instead if your budget allows it over this. Provides decent performance and is suitable for any moderate to high end gaming rig although as said earlier get the K series if you can.

Sensible price, good cost/power ratio
Previously upgrading from a socket 755 Q9650, which is a monster of a CPU on its own, but was limited by my motherboard to just 4gb or DDR2. This is a great, mid-priced, CPU of the new Skylake architecture. I didn't fancy upgrading to the, frankly, eye watering prices of the i7's. Glad I upgraded to this one as hopefully that's me out of the Motherboard -> CPU -> RAM vicious circle for a while now. Fingers crossed. Also, I decided to stick with the stock CPU cooler, which although is clearly audible (my PSU and case fans are passive unless things starts to warm up), its still drowned out by my antique GTS 250, so not all that bad!As far as I can tell so far, this is a great value CPU for the price.

Great price/performance ratio
Excellent performance for what was a bargain price, runs very cool to boot with idle temperatures at 16C with only a Raijintek Themis CPU cooler and 2 case fans inside Cooler Master Silencio 352. Stress testing with Prime95 pushes it to 46C and only goes above 50C when the GPU is stressed alongside it but the R9 280 is a toasty card so heats up the entire case.

This cpu is great for those of you who do not with to overclock. As all the other reviews are people and because they bought the wrong one. Simply look at the title and specs completely before buying. This is the locked version which is why it is cheaper than all others that are unlocked. Processor is very fast and as you won't be overclocking, the stock cooler is more than good enough even with the built in boost node activated.

Performance wise it's an alright cpu but is still to much for over £180. If you can afford an extra £15 and 20 to 30 pound for a cooler then go for the unlocked k version which will you will be able to overclock to keep up with future generations.

Great CPU
I bought this as an upgrade from my old AMD FX-4350. I see an increase in framerate in most games (there was one exception - Far Cry Primal) with this CPU. I used to get 60FPS in Minecraft, I now get upwards of 600FPS. It can handle pretty much everything you throw at it. In Idle, it is around 30-40 degrees Celsius.Overall, an excellent CPU choice for gamers, although if you don't game and just do things such as browse the web, then it may be a bit overkill.
