Worth spending the extra money.
Excellent book, excellent quality pictures, good size and well written. The updated section follows on seamlessly from the original work, including new photographs from recent photographers to show that photography is still thriving and developing. The book is an excellent way to see the work of a number of the great street photographers from the beginning of photography to the 21st century. The price seems a little high but it is well worth the extra money. Highly recommended.

Massive book....very comprehensive
There is probably even more text and reading material in this huge volume than I expected but as a comprehensive history of street photography it is excellent. The main photographic examples are in discreet intermittent sections of the book.Definitely a book to take your time over, a book rest or cushion might help too!

Comprehensive look at the history of street photography
This is simply a classic book. This is a heavy and detailed look at how street photography developed over the years. Like a coffee morning this is a lively discussion of preferences and views of the 2 experts giving plenty of insights.Only for people really interested in delving into this mine of information - if you want a quick overview with more pictures than words, this is not for you.The age of the book means that it does not include the very latest fads like Instagram and Smartphones!

An extraordinary book on photography and its history through the historical streets of Britain, Europe and the US. It reads beautifully and the commentary on the individual photographs and the photographers is first rate. This book does justice to the art of photography and its artists.

Detailed
A very detailed history from the start of photography to recent. The first section is a bit “arty” but then it settles down into a good history of the genre.
