The final adventure begins. From Disney and Producer Jerry Bruckheimer comes the harrowing and thrilling PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES. Set sail with Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) as deadly ghost sailors, led by the terrifying Captain Salazar (Javier Bardem), escape from the Devil's Triangle bent on killing every pirate at sea -- notably Jack -- in an epic story packed with humor, suspense and amazing special effects! Review: Fun to watch - It's a Pirates movie with Johnny Depp, of course its good, Review: A good, possible, end to the series - It is hard to tell if the Pirates franchise will ever truly be over until Johnny Depp decides he does not want to do any more of them. They make Disney a ton of money, so as long as he is willing to resurrect the character of Jack Sparrow, there is always a good chance another movie will come along at some point. This one, however, if it is the final movie in the series, does a good job telling its own story while having callbacks to and essentially finishing the Will and Elizabeth story (both Orlando Bloom and Kiera Knightly have cameos in the film). The main focus of the story is the search for Poseidon's trident, which allows whoever wields it power over the seas. Javier Bardem is the new "big bad" of the franchise, Captain Espinoza, who has a history with Jack Sparrow. Geoffrey Rush also reprises his role as Barbosa, and many of the original supporting characters appear as well (e.g., Kevin McNally as Gibbs). The other new characters include the son of Will and Elizabeth, Henry Turner, (played by Brenton Thwaites) and Carina Smyth (played by Kaya Scodelario) who is an astronomer accused of being a witch, who is trying to find the trident to follow her father's map left for her. The younger actor's roles were clearly meant to mirror, but not outright copy, the roles of Bloom and Knightly in the first movie. For those who get the 4K blu-ray, the movie looks and sounds great, as you would expect. There are awesome visuals that are a mix of practical and CGI, and they really pop in the UHD format. The UHD disc has just the movie, and the regular Blu-ray disc has the extras. This includes over an hour of making-of and behind-the-scenes material, a gag reel, deleted scenes, and a couple of previews. A pretty good amount, especially with less and less bonus material being put out with the physical discs these days. Overall, I think the movie is good, even if it is derivative (at times) of parts of the other movies. Depp can easily step back into what has become an iconic character, without missing a beat. It would have been nice to incorporate Orlando Bloom into the movie more, as there was certainly a pretty easy way to do so, but from what I remember reading back when it was announced that the movie would be made, he was not really interested in more than a cameo role. While I do not think that the movie is as good as The Curse of The Black Pearl, I do think that it was on par with, or better than, the other sequels. I do think with a running time of just over two hours, it did not feel like the movie was dragging on too long. I definitely think it is worth checking out.

A good, possible, end to the series

Another fun and entertaining Pirates movie!
This is the 5th film in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise and it’s just as great and entertaining and fun as the previous 4. Rarely do sequels measure up, but these Pirates films are all top notch. Javier Bardem was creepy, dark and amazing as the bad guy ghost. Johnny Depp and Geoffrey Rush were phenomenal as always. Watched this again after the Johnny Depp trial as it was interesting to watch it post trial incoming that Depp was suffering personally at that time in that horrible relationship with that abuser Amber Heard. Watching this film I never would’ve guessed or noticed he was suffering. He’s such a professional and gifted actor that he can turn that off to get to work. Disney needs to make one more pirates film, a 6th one, with all of the original cast members from Johnny Depp, Geoffrey Rush, Kiera Knightley and Orlando Bloom. And even bring back some of the other characters throughout the franchise to wrap up the franchise in one Big Bang where all end up together in the end. And they can bring back Geoffrey Rush even though his character Barbossa died….again. They keep bringing him back to life over and over anyway, they can do it once more.

A great movie, a great disc
I like it about as much as all the others in the series. The HD transfer is, of course, excellent and has a lot of extras if you're into that sort of thing. Of course, it comes with the ever-worthless DVD and digital versions, but maybe someone will get something out of them.
