The Discovery Store Colourful Waterfall Illusion

I bought this as a present for my girlfriend who talked fondly of something similar she had as a kid. I googled everything under the sun and eventually discovered these things are often used as timers and they are sometimes called liquid motion.In this particular item the two different colour liquids don't touch each other as I've seen on some. Instead there's a bit of clear plastic that runs down the middle separating them. It doesn't take away from the illusion at all though, in fact it does mean you get to see a third colour from when they overlap.I wasn't too keen on the packaging this came in, it looked a bit cheap, so I took it out of the packaging and wrapped it up on its own instead. The build quality is decent enough but nothing special, basically just hard plastic. As long as it doesn't take any heavy knocks there shouldn't be any issues with durability.As a gift, this went down a treat. It's the perfect thing to stick on a desk as its surprisingly relaxing to look at and zone out a little. I can definitely see why it would make a useful timer, but if you're looking for a nice unique present for someone it can also work really well.

Got this as a timer and for relaxation focus. It is great for adults as well as children. You can use it as a focus timer for when you are feeling stressed, or you can use it as a time out timer for your child. It lasts about 2 minutes.The construction is good quality, but was surprised to see the colours are 2 separate chambers. This timer is much slimmer and smaller than I thought, but that's ok, it's lightweight and easy to take with you wherever you may roam. My nephew loves to watch the bubbles drop, and it helps calm him.

Got this for my little boy (4) and he loves it, it does have a relaxing/mesmerising effect. I like watching it too sometimes! It is tough as the proverbial old boots too, it's been dropped and bumped and even taken a trip down the stairs. If shaken violently the colours dissolve into a fine mist with a different trickle effect (I thought it was wrecked!) but it returns to normal after a while. I am surprised by how well liked this is frankly, I thought it would be forgotten with a few days - I guess lots of children would quickly lose interest but in our case it's attraction has lasted. We often use it as a 'timer' for silly little tasks/challenges like getting dressed. I'm glad I bought it.

This is a cool thing for children to watch which is why I got it but it easily got a crack when they accidentally dropped it, not from a great height. I guess the glass isn't very tough. We had a different one previously that lasted for years and was really tough so I thought they all were but I guess they're not!

This little desktop accessory was a great buy - worth every penny! Even the writing on the packaging was lovely to read! It was smaller than I had first expected, measuring no more than 5/6inches, but that only makes it cuter. It's great to look at when you're feeling stressed as the bubble movements are quite funky, the liquid doesn't take long at all to reach the other end, but that only means you get to flip it over again and watch the magic! Having fun with this product as we speak :) p.s. try shaking it up too!

Nice item but it is branded as 'Discovery for girls' and has pink floral packaging. The story/myth on the back is also weak at best. Could have done with a proper explaination of the effect.

Great fun item. I gave this to my 7 year old nephew as one of his Christmas presents. He was tearing through his presents like the Tazmanian devil, barely sparing anything a glance, but when he opened this, he stopped dead and just spent 10 minutes looking at it. Great little stocking filler!
