Perfect for home studios on a budget
Was initially looking at the Mackie desk upon which this seems to be based, but went for the far cheaper Behringer version. Replaced a patch bay and was finally able to get everything connected in a useful way,I find the subgroups especially useful - for sending to samplers etc.The eq section and compressors sound good to my ears. Don't really use the onboard effects, but the 4 sends are very useful.Only downside is the documentation, and haven't found much more online. Most things are fairly straightforward though. Definitely recommend for more complex home studio setups, especially at the price.

Super value. Everything you need why pay more?
I think this is a great mixer. It's my second Behringer mixer. My previous one, a UB1204FX was used almost daily for 10 years. It's still going strong, but is just a bit too small for the needs of our band. I use the X2442USB for recording and as a live desk for my band. It's a great design and offers all that I need from a mixer. The thing with gear like Behringer is that it has to be judged in the context of it's target application. Affordable stuff like this just didn't exist a few years ago, so for gigs we would all be plugged into some massive 4 channel Peavey or HH PA heads which might have a spring reverb if you were lucky. Home recording was on a cassette porta-studio if you could afford it. Now with gear like this we can get pro-quality functional gear at a very affordable price. I am an ex sound engineer who spent many years in recording studios in the 80's and 90's. In those days only huge SSL desks had compressors on every channel, and many of the 'pro' digital reverbs we had didn't sound as good as the effects on the X2442USB. The effects are a little noisy, but quite useable if driven hard enough, more than good enough for live applications. I really like the compressors, not much control, but the settings are a good compromise of attack and compression ratio. EQ is functional and adequate. I tend to use plug-ins on my DAW for recording anyway. Direct channel outs are a great addition, and 4 aux sends is a luxury. It's just a really well designed desk which covers everything I need t for. Sure it's no Neve, it's not as quiet and has more crosstalk than the real pro stuff, but really, in the pubs and clubs we play, or on the MP3 recordings we make streamed online, i defy anyone to tell the difference.

Good Home Studio Mixer
Bought this to be able to connect to Cubase via USB. As a mixer it has it's limitations but the overall build quality is excellent and the faders are smooth and positive. Set up and connection was easy and although there are limited options for signal routing it is more than capable as a home studio mixer. I have been able to connect all of my audio outputs from various sources and, using midi from Cubase, can produce some good quality recordings. If you are thinking of professional results then this is not for you but as a general purpose unit for a small studio it is excellent value for money.

High recommended!
This mixer was an upgrade for me. I'd previously been using a smaller 2 mic input behinrger mixer which only had one aux send and no inserts; I wanted a mixer with this funcaility to feed a looper from an aux send, as well as adding reverb. Those in the market for mixers will no doubt be aware that inserts and multiple sends/outputs are only available on large mixers, hence my choice of the x2222usb.On the whole, tHis mixer peforms beautifully and Im very happy with my purchase. The are certainly more pros thans cons!PROSThe Sub group is a nice bonus for me to supplement my basic home recording setup. I foresee that this could be useful for monitoring/recording vocals i.e. sending dry vocals through the sub group outputs (to a recording device) whilst monitoring the vocals (with the main mix) with reverb. The compressors are nice and transparent. I feared that they might be "squishy" but they sound good to my ears. Each main (Mic) channel has a mute, solo, main and sub group switch. Each main (Mic) channel has 3 sends and an insert. The phones/control room has a nice bank of switches to dictate what your monitoring through phones/control room outs.Ease of use is worthy of note. I've been using it for a few days and already am confortable with most of the functions. Highly recommended for those wanting an introduction into PA/recoridng/mixing/live sound equipement.CONSThe other built in effects are ok for the price, but each preset just seems too much. You can tame it by adjusting the channel and master send/return volumes, but the ability to configure one of the parameters would be nice. This can be overcome by inserting your own rev/fx unit. For my purposes, its a non-issue.All the pots are plastic shaft types and probably PCB mounted. This not uncommon these days, but Im wary that if these shap, replacement will be tricky it not near impossible (hence 4 stars and not 5).***Im aware of the USB in/out but deliberately not mentioned as I ahvent tested it. One youtube video suggested that the USB out can be configured so that each Mic channel is outputted individually via USB and therefore could be simulaneously recorded individually. I do suspect this to be false. I suspect the USB out only carries the stereo main mix L and R. USB is still useful for home pc recording though.***
