Does the job very quietly
October 27, 2019We purchased a generator at the end of July, primarily because our utility company, PG&E, was planning power outages to prevent wildfires. I’m disabled and use non-invasive ventilation to help me breathe in addition to other machines that require electricity to run or be recharged. I chose the Honda 3000W unit for its power output, quiet operation, ease of use and reputation for reliability. Since receiving it, we’ve had 2 power outages. The first outage began after we were asleep. The total time for the outage was 15 hrs and we ran the generator for 9.25 hrs. It used 3/4 of the tank (about 2.25 gal) and was providing power to: 2 side-by-side refrigerator/freezers, 1 microwave, 2 cable TV boxes, 2 TV’S, a modem & router, printer, outlets & lights in a family room, kitchen, garage including door opener, 3 of the 4 bedrooms and all 3 bathrooms. I’m not a big fan of extension cord spaghetti and had an electrician set up an outlet so all we have to do is turn off the main switch to the house, the breakers for all 220V appliances and any other breakers we won’t be using. The Honda starts right up and we use a heavy duty male-male cord to make the connection. It is so quiet I’m barely able to hear it on the patio 20 ft away (double pane windows). Of course we don’t run everything at the same time and we’re able to use the ECO mode. We’re in the middle of the 2nd power outage as I type this review and the Honda is purring away. There are a few things other reviews mentioned that need to be addressed.Weight. It’s definitely heavy. I felt it worth getting wheels/castors and make sure 2 of them can swivel. https://smile.amazon.com/Reliance-Controls-Corporation-06424-ZS9-000AH-Generator/dp/B000VH7ZZ0The generator is shipped with no oil or gas and the battery is not connected. Install the wheels, before adding any fluids.Everything you need to know is in the owner’s manual, which comes with it or it can be accessed online. The only error I came across is the manual says, “Remove the four 6 mm cap nuts, and remove the front cover.” for accessing the battery. The cap nuts are 10mm not 6mm.When I connected the battery, I also added 2 pigtails for a battery tender to alleviate having to remove the cover to charge the battery. https://smile.amazon.com/Battery-Tender-021-0123-Junior-Charger/dp/B000CITK8SSo far, this has been a great purchase. Love it!

Great Generator. Solid
Honda EU300IS with Starter is just great. Here is how it went. Received the generator. Two days later I put oil in it. Threes days after that I put gas in then pulled the chock and turned the key and it started right up. Purring like a kitten. Low noise but switched to "Eco" mode and noise was cut in half. It wasn't noisy to begin with as generators go.I also installed a wheel kit to make it easier to move around (130lbs) and installed a Honda Battery Tender (Optimate3) to keep the battery charged. It does also have a pull start of course. I love when things just work as advertised.

Quiet and works. Honda quality
Good generator. Very quiet, about as loud as an idling Honda Civic when on eco mode. Even on normal mode, the RPMs kick up but the noise increases only modestly. I keep this as a backup for storms/hurricanes and whatnot, and I'm comfortable that I can run this at night without annoying my neighbors.Notes:- does not come with oil, so you'll need to add oil before you fire it up.- get the wheel kit for an extra $100 if you're keeping this in your garage or shed and need to move it around occasionally. its difficult to move it around without wheels.- one of the feet was damaged in shipping, but I was removing it anyway to replace with the wheel kit.

A Plus
While I haven't really used this, I know if the power company is sending out notices about emergency shutoffs, things could get sticky. So, I bought an emergency generator for the house as my 94 yr. old mom is on O2 24/7 by 365 and can't afford not to have her machine running. Plus, I also have medical conditions which require the house to be no more than 75 degrees inside. I guess the Scout's oath, Be Prepared, is my reasoning factor here. Plus, after doing a lot of research, this is the one I settled on. Get the All Terrain Wheel kit setup for portability as this is no light weight generator. It's definitely a two person lift.

Look it over really well before you fill oil
Didn't get a chance to even put oil in it. Received it and it was damaged
