Review: Great resource - Great resource for alternative families. Ease to read and develop family stories for inquisitive small people Review: Great book to show family diversity. - Our 22 month old loved this book and often asks for it. Great for families underrepresented in most mainstream books and would be a great addition to any preschool or infant/junior school so the kids can learn about different kinds of family. Whether you are from a single parent family, a single sex family, a multiracial family, adopted family, big or small family etc there is some kind of representation. It also has themes such as types of work, types of home, types of food people eat, and schooling, feelings etc. Basically it highlights that most people do not fit in to the stereotypical family image and that each family is unique and equally valid. Even if your family is very traditional this is a great book to teach your child about other people with other kinds of families. Bringing understanding.

This is a great book because it not only introduces the reader to different family dynamics but different ways of living, eg homes, clothes, food etc I would highly recommend this book.

Super book!
Really nice book. Not too much of a story to read, but so many lovely illustrations leading to interesting conversations with my little one. Definitely worth a purchase! And it will age well as she's only 3 now, and some of the concepts are beyond her understanding just yet.

Fantastic book!
Fantastic book!! My four year old daughter wants to read it every night since we bought it for her at Christmas. I wish this type of book had been around when I was younger. It will help my children to better understand the world, become accepting of differences and see the world through the eyes of others. I cannot recommend it enough. I hope the author keeps writing! We also have The Big Book of Feelings (by the same author) which both my daughter and I also love.

A diverse book
This is a really good book for showing the diverse types of families that differs from so many children's books. It starts to present the world around them in an accesible way, and helps children to feel included when stories so often don't represent them.

I can't recommend this book enough. Lovely book.
Really nice book to read over with children. A lovely layout, wonderfully illustrated and simple language make this book a useful tool for introducing children to today's varieties of families. I'd suggest this book is also a useful tool for beginning a conversation about 'absent' parents and parents in prison. An easy 5 stars for me. PLEASE NOTE; THE PRODUCT DESCRIPTION STATES THIS BOOK TALKS ABOUT MIXED RACE FAMILIES, DISABILITIES IN FAMILIES AND HAVING A PARENT IN PRISON. IT DOESN'T CONTAIN THIS INFORMATION. THE UPDATED EDITION DOESN'T CONTAIN THIS INFORMATION EITHER.

This is MY FAVORITE BOOK for my 5-year old, I only wish I had found it sooner. Each page focuses on a certain way that families may differ, like their structure (nuclear, mixed races, adopted, +), their homes (big homes, apartments, homeless, +), their vacation choices (Europe, the beach, staying in, +)... The text is simple to understand, and the countless illustrations on each page show graphical representations of how families can be unique and perfectly their own. EVERY single time I read this to my daughter, she asks me different questions about the text or a picture, and we then happily discuss it at her level. I try to raise my daughter to be as understanding and accepting as possible, and I'm very proud that she rarely bats an eye when she comes across new "differences" in people or families. This book really helps children understand that everyone and every family is unique, but that everyone and every family is also made just the way they are supposed to be. No matter how often we read it, she is always completely engaged with the great illustrations, and it always opens her up to a new conversation of understanding which is perfectly at her level at that point in time. I wish this could be in every classroom and every family library. So many children consider whatever their family may be to be "normal", which leads them to question other families who aren't in their identical situation. Even if your family is more traditional, consider how this could impact your own child's view of diversity when they grow into the world. How it could impact their interactions with other children who do not come from traditional families. Unfortunately, many children who come from non-traditional families are faced with the same questions from their peers on such a frequent basis, that shame or defensiveness may form for things that they should not be ashamed about, such as being an only child or for coming to school wearing some type of traditional clothing. This book is a great tool to foster the development of well-rounded and understanding little humans, I highly recommend it for all.

I love everything about this book. I thought it was only going to be about members of a family and different orientations but no, it was so much more than that! It talked about homes(building), vacations, holidays, pets and more fun little details about people and how they differ from families! It’s quite long and my 2yo gets bored but I am ecstatic to have this for when he’s older and can ask questions!

It's literally the 'Great big book of Families', It has everything that you need to teach a preschooler as far as society is concerned and very well helps them understand everything and everyone is not the same. Helps kids broaden their mindset and accept the differences. Especially came in hand during and post covid as kids don't get to socialize as usual!
