Works as intended with DeskMini X300
It's a pain to install because the cable gets in the way of the motherboard sliding mechanism, but everything works in the end.

cable is quite difficult to route
pushing the motherboard back into the deskmini can either cause the cable to stop the motherboard going back in at all, or causes the cable to interfere with the cpu fan.even after 30mins wrangling with the cable and getting the motherboard back in, the cable is still dangerously close to clipping the fan blades.the clips where you can route the cable on the deskmini are not really fit for purpose. the metal clip at the back is flush with the surface on my unit so its impossible to put the cable in there. the plastic white clip on the side is flimsy and barely holds the thick black wires in place.not a good design for something which is sort of essential on a machine with so few usb ports to begin with.

Works Exactly as Expected
The case hole for this socket is covered by a metal flap which you will need to fatigue-bend until it breaks off, leaving the hole as needed with a rough edge which might need a little cleaning up. The item then just screws into position using the holes and screws provided. The short-ish cable then terminates on a header which plugs into the motherboard. This item is just about essential for the desk mini PC which I have set up as a dual-boot Windows/Linux box for general purpose lab work. I use the two USB2 ports for mouse and keyboard.
