Q: does gas lift come with metal seat

Usuall not, sold separately since gas lift can wear out before lift etc.

Q: my less than a year old office chair tilts to the right ... {grrrrr-!} will this heavy duty office chair swivel make it straight again???

As long as the issue you are having has to do with the metal of the swivel being broken in some way. Yes it should fix that issue if it doesn't have to do with your chair base being bent or the rollers (wheels) being broken or bent ether. I have had 2 different office chairs have the metal plate of the swivel crack or break and have had the cross bar in the middle of it break as well. This issues have caused my chairs to also lean to the side or forward. Replacing it with this will fix those issues. Just make sure that the screw/bolt holes are the right distance apart for your chair. Make sure to measure it on your chair. Just flip it over and use a tape measure check the distance between them from side to side and the distance from the front set of holes to the back set of holes as well. Some chairs have different hole positions but many are the same. If your bolts heads are to narrow get some large washers to help fix that issue too.

Q: Does it come with hold-down bolts? If not, where can I get them?

We dont provide the bolts/screws for mounting, since the industry did not standardize on size. The most common size used is 1/4-20 type. Some manufacturers also use metric bolts. Ace Hardware sells both types of bolts in different lengths.

Q: My swivel plate is exact;y 10" x 6". should fit i assume. what is the significant of the 2.5" inner hole margin? mine is 1.25" only.

Yes as far as fitting, the mounting holes are oversized and there is approx 3/16” leeway, so it will mount on an exact 6x10 holes just fine. The 2 holes in the back of the mechanism are important as 2 screws to mount the back post go through those holes on some model chairs. If your back post is mounted directly on the seat not requiring those holes, then you dont need to worry about it david
