Watches BM8240-03E Eco-Drive Leather Watch

This is one of the few men's watches that has a 36 mm diameter. That is significant if you have a small wrist (large watches look stupid) and also because there are hints that there is a move away from extra large watches within the industry and back towards smaller watches (like vintage watches). I believe that Rolex recently re-introduced a 36 mm watch - not that the Citizen is a Rolex: it keeps better time. The watch is very accurate, looks good to my eyes and very pleased with purchase. Since Citizen pioneered solar (eco drive) watches and the E101 movement is long established there is hope that the watch will be reliable and long lasting. Minor gripes: the strap remains very stiff after a few weeks, as reported by other reviewers, and I shall probably change it; calendar is not a perpetual calendar, so will have to move the date on five times a year (what an awful chore!); and the day for Sunday is written in red, which I don't like. Overall very happy though. (I would have paid more for a 36 mm solar watch with perpetual calendar, but could not track any down.)

I have a vast collection of watches from a £10 digital watch to an Osiris and Breitling and this is by far the most comfortable to wear. It’s very light compared to all my collection, it’s simple, elegant, and accurate. It’s a lot smaller than most watches but regardless, it adds to the comfort which I desire most days. It has been a daily driver since purchasing it and that says a lot about a watch. It is accurately priced for what you get. Presentation of the box is standard, but the watch is strong, real leather band, a cool buckle with ‘eco drive’ imprinted on it. That brings me to the final point. Eco drive is becoming a standard for citizen watches. It is beneficial for the environment, and for the price I paid for this watch, I will never have to worry about putting a battery in it again. Furthermore, it comes with a 5 year (+1 for registering the watch) so 6 year guarantee for internal parts. The only other I know to have offered me that is Rolex.

Great watch for the price and very impressive. If anyone remembers the old classic solar powered watches this is nothing like that one. Classic design with day and date at the 3 hand (My only gripe being you do sometimes have to wind the day and date on and as a few reviewers have mentioned it can be a bit of a pain as for some reason Citizen have not made it easy to wind on the day and date if you have fingers beyond the size of a small child) Leather strap is probably the only down side as a previous reviewer has mentioned its not a classical leather style but almost a "Crocodile" Leather style but its really not that noticeable. I am not a regular wearer of this watch and I have not noticed it loosing time or any other problems. If I am being really fussy over this watch I would say the second hand doesnt quite hit every second after it passes the 30 second mark (You see, I have to be really fussy to find fault here!) Movements are listed as Japanese and although it says its water resistant I have not tried it in water of any depth. Face of the watch is a nice classic design, nothing fancy but looks nice on the wrist. Its of a classic size and not one of the larger watch faces that are currently popular. The big bonus of course with this watch is it does not need a battery, from my experience just exposure to normal light will do, if its on your wrist daily it shouldnt be a problem at all, if you take it off just leave it somewhere where it will get some level of light (In another words not at the back of the cupboard) For the money and for the quality I recommend this watch especially to someone looking for a simple classic design watch and doesnt fancy paying several hundred pounds for a Raymond Wiel or Tissot.

My current Citizen Eco-Drive watch replaced the Eco-Drive I've worn for the last 25 years. I'm sure it will give equally wonderful service. My previous watch remained accurate throughout that quarter decade, and I only had to replace it when the original watch strap finally failed and the watch launched off my wrist whilst out walking, landing 6 feet in front of me, finally breaking the glass and stopping the mechanism (it is shockproof, but not expected to survive such an upheaval). The watch face is smart, it includes both day and date, and the watch strap comfortable to wear. It maintains perfect quartz accuracy as long as it is exposed to light, never needing to have the battery replaced or to be wound up, like mechanical style watches. The only slight negative, unlike my previous 25 year old Eco-Drive, is that this model does not have luminous hands and dials to enable the time to be seen in the dark, but that is of minor concern to me. The watch was very competitively priced for such an excellent piece of equipment and I believe represents very good value. A satisfied customer.

A very thin watch with a medium size dial. The crown is positively tiny, too small in fact and very sleek. If you want a #nobattery #neverwind watch this one is ok

Very disappointing quality. The strap is extremely stiff, making the watch uncomfortable to wear, and the day function does not change when trying to set it. For a watch costing over £100, I expected far better.

I purchased this with some birthday money I'd received (normally not one to treat myself!), and after having started a small collection of very affordable watches <£20 I wanted something with a bit more of a premium feel. I purchased this for £68 and after receiving it I feel like it's worth a whole lot more. The watch body is polished and very smooth, the face is elegant yet simple and very easy to read. The strap high quality, and while for the first few days it was very stiff it has now moulded to fit my wrist comfortably. I love the Eco-Drive features of this watch and knowing I've got at least 20 years before I need a battery is pretty decent! My only gripe is that as mentioned in other reviews the crown is polished rather than textured which makes setting the watch a bit more difficult than others.

Ho regalato questo orologio alla mia compagna. Per una donna va benissimo. Nessuna necessità di cambiare la batteria ogni due anni come i normali quarzi, questo si ricarica con la luce del sole e la batteria deve essere sostituita soltanto dopo una quindicina d'anni. Il design è moderno e minimale, gli indici sono a bastone tranne il 12, il 4 e l'8 che sono in cifre arabe con caratteri Bauhaus. Presente giorno della settimana e data a ore 3. La cassa non è proprio sottilissima, ma visto che oltre al meccanismo dell'orologio ci sono anche i dischi data e la cella solare per la ricarica, a questo prezzo non si poteva fare di meglio. Cinturino in pelle di qualità media. Corona a pressione, piccola e non invadente. Va bene anche sotto un abito formale. Per l'estate ho abbinato un bracciale mesh (a rete sottile) che ha conferito un look ancora più classico a questo orologio. Acquisto consigliatissimo.

My watch arrived on time and in good condition. the box holding the watch was attractive and instructions for setting up were clear. The only issue I had was the requirement to spin the hands through all the full 24 hours of each day to get to the current date because screw-type crown has two positions, one for flipping the day of the week, and the other for moving the time hands. It was a minor inconvenience and after about 10 minutes of turning the crown, the time was set, and remained accurate since I first put it on. This watch is elegant yet quietly understated and has conformed flawlessly to my expectations.

This watch has a classy and timeless style. It will go well with office and formal attire. The size of the watch is a bid small. At 36mm diameter, I would not recommend this watch for guys with large wrist sizes. It is a little hard to grip the crown to set the date on the watch. Requires a little patience. Otherwise, it's a good addition to any watch collection. Watch was also delivered and received the next day.

Molto elegante e pulito. Difficile trovarne di così per chi cerca qualcosa di semplice, discreto e comodo. Ovviamente ha tecnologia eco-drive a ricarica solare. Unico difetto per me è la grandezza, forse 36mm è un po' troppo piccolo esteticamente, la leggibilità rimane comunque ottima ma molti cercano appunto anche l'orologio con il quadrante piccolo (che oramai sono sempre più rari) quindi direi che è perfetto per loro.
