The Muslim Woman's Handbook (Islamic society) : Huda Khattab: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Great for a muslim woman in a non muslim country - This book was written by a British convert to Islam and is specified towards people who find day to day difficulties in being muslim in a western country. One great point she mentions is regarding a woman's hijab which is intended to deflect attention. Although the abaya works great in the gulf and the shalwar khamees works well in the indian sub, it can serve the opposite purpose in the west, attracting attention to you. Its a tiny book, great for referring back to and realizing that you're not alone in your struggles! Review: concise and yet comprehensive - Useful to muslims and reverts alike, applicable to the West author cites references to back up her advice. however, section on contraception is not in keeping with the Islamic scholars' views today, and needs updating. this section was also inaccurate regarding mode of action of some contraceptives and their effect, and reference cited here was outdated and inappropriate (1992, advice from Mrs Gillick).

... would contain the rules of how to lead a good Muslim life as women
I bought this book as I thought this would contain the rules of how to lead a good Muslim life as women. It covers some topics but mainly is just a summary of a woman's opinion. A good read but not really helpful if your looking for a text book to refer to for the requirements of a woman's role and expectations in Islam

Good For A Beginner Especially...
Huda Khattab did a brilliant job introducing Islam here. Simple to understand. This book is a very good book especially for reverts or people who simply want to know bit more about Islam. Very handy too when it is in a kindle form. You do not have to carry the book itself! All in all, a very good buy...

Please do not buy this book if you are interested in recovering from patriarchal misinterpretation and alternation of Islam. This book only reflected the colonial and patriarchal corruption of Islam by gulf money. This is NOT Islam. Of course it’s not the intention of the author to oppress women, this book is merely the direct product of indoctrination, that’s has been set in pace for decades now. It’s scary how corrupted and disappointing the Muslim community has become :( to give you a better idea of why you shouldn’t buy this book and how it is completely unislamic, it is endorsing marital rape and has a section where she tells women that they are not allowed to to refuse sex and just obey their husbands in regards to sexual intercourse too. Please, there are so many good books out there that truly reflect the beauty and true essence of Islam, there is no reason to reach for a book that clearly supports the corruption of Islam.

Great read. Alleviated much fear, worries, and brought peace of mind. I like that the author references the Quran and the varying interpretations of arguably difficult points to accept in Western culture. Comprehensive and empowering.

Not sure what school of thought the author is from but I don’t want to be a part of it. Still a good read to understand the way most Muslims think about women.

I am learning about islam. I love how she mentions other books at the end of each chapter. Helps me to get ideas on more to read. Love how informative the book is. Definitely an easy read.
