This toy has been tested by a ten year old boy who was able to get it working without the instructions because he has a Bey blade, which has a similar mechanism. He knew where to put the pull cord and the instructions simply confirm that. It doesn't work on carpet but it's fine on a smooth floor, where it will happily propel itself into the nearest object making authentic BB-8 sounds at high speed and then come to an abrupt halt. It would be better if it bounced off of things and carried on merrily, perhaps. Unless you're in a really large space you might get frustrated with how short-lived each 'rip-n-go' is. Other than that, it works without the batteries (2xAAA) but you don't get the sounds unless you put the batteries in and it must be said that the sounds are what gives it its charm. To a point. We like BB-8- but he's really just a one trick android. Still, I've been told by his new owner to give him full marks and for the money (£14) he's probably worth 5 stars. He is a Star Wars toy, after all, and the great thing about Star Wars toys is, if you keep the packaging they should be worth something one day...The downloadable app makes you the star of your own action sequence. It lets you record for 6 seconds then play back with a Star Wars character/effect to make it look you're being pursued, blown up etc. It works well after a few attempts. There's a blue marker on the recording screen so you know where you're going to get hit and you stand in right the spot. I've included photos below.

Its an ok toy - looks and sounds like BB8 should - and has good novelty value if fan of the new films (they are both 5 star excellent things in my humble opinion)Taken a star off because my daughter loved it for a few days then forgot about it. Probably needed an extra dimension to be a truely awesome toy.

I bought this for my son and after I saw how amazing it was i got one for his friends birthday it was really reduced so I paid less then £10 for it very strong and well made it's been played with so much and bb8 talks as his moving so much fun my 22month old daughter picks him up and hugs him and carries him about like she does with her dolls so both my kids and myself would definitely recommend my sons friend hasnt played with it yet as its not his birthday for a couple of months

I’m really happy with this! For the price I wasn’t expecting much but am pleasantly surprised. There is an app where you can take a photo and your bb8 can roll across the photo. It’s very cool.The toy itself it quite large for the price and makes fun noises once rolling.Son loves it

This product is very expensive for what it is, it appears to have very little play value

Great fun little toy. Needs 2 x AAA batteries to make noises but great fun. My 5 year old really enjoyed it as a birthday gift.
