Good product.
Good quality sturdy slicer with three different cutting discs. I use it to slice part frozen chicken for my dogs treats. The machine doesn’t like part frozen food and produces a variety of thicknesses when on the smallest setting. For cooked products it is excellent, there are lots of thickness settings and it does a great job. It is reasonably easy to clean with the component parts coming apart. It is safe to use, with the guards. Blades are very sharp. Love Andrew James products - they last. Very good price for a great product.

Very pleased.
My best mate is a High St butcher & he put me on to this for cost/quality. Now making substantial savings over buying ham, pork & beef slices & hope to start baking my own bread soon. Easy to clean between use & only 1 area gives me hygiene concern, the little flexible plastic tag at the very bottom of the cutting area.

Excellent for the price
This product is excellent value for money if you are sick of cooking a Sunday Roast to perfection, only to ruin it in presentation by hacking it up roughly with tongs and a carving knife. This machine can then be used on the cold leftover bit of the joint to thinly slice the perfect Sunday supper sandwich meat. If, like me, you also cure your own meat (pastrami or bacon for example)then this machine is a must in order to get that perfect thin and even slice. If you make your own ham too, in order to get that real ham taste (rather than that awful, watery supermarket stuff) then this machine is perfect for making that ham go further, or giving you that professional wafer thin look and taste... The same goes for home-baked bread; no more door wedge sandwiches, as this machine gives your own bread the perfect slices too. The machine itself isn't as heavy as you think it might be (at least to me, it wasn't) but the build quality is very good nonetheless. It's a bit noisy for its size, but nothing that is a deal breaker. This slicer could probably do with having a more powerful motor, as it slows down a little too much for my liking, even when you put light stuff like bread through it... meaning it could probably do with a motor that has more grunt. The Slicer comes with a universal blade fitted that cuts most things quite well (like roast meat) and two extra specialist blades come boxed separately... one for wafer thin ham/salami etc, the other one just for bread. Changing the blades is uncomplicated, quick and easy to do. Cleaning is a breeze, and I can't understand how some people are saying it isn't... Most times a simple wipe down with a damp cloth does the trick. Every now and again it may be necessary to remove the blade and give the machine a more thorough clean, but as I said above, doing so is quick and easy. Over all; a good and versatile product that is exceptionally good value for money.

Slices everything with ease
Great bit of kit, slices through all sorts of meats with no issue. Took the top of my finger off with no issue. Very much recommend using the supplied guard piece

This is a great little bit of kit for the kitchen
This is a great little bit of kit for the kitchen. Have only tried it on cooked beef so far but was really impressed by the way it cut through the joint and how I was able to cut slices to the thickness desired. The handle or knob to change the thickness settings is a bit stiff but that doesn't really matter because if it were slack then it may slip off the settings, so no problems there. I was really pleased with the easy cleaning of the machine as this is always a worry when slicing things such as meat in particular which could stick in nooks and crannies and create a health hazard. With this machine it certainly was an easy job to give it a thorough clean after use. Removing the blade was relatively easy too once I'd found a 2 pence coin that fit the slot in the locking screw that holds the blade in place. The blades are very robust and weighty which suggests they are of good quality and are well designed for the purpose intended. The motor that is installed in this machine seems fine for the job and was quiet in running and when cutting through the meat. I have yet to make some bread to slice on the machine but if it cuts as well on that as it did on the beef then great. I am arthritic and find cutting things and holding objects for any length of time makes my hands lock so this food slicer is a real boost in my kitchen. Sizewise this machine is as I would have expected and would fit easily on most worktops or stashed away in a cup-board when not in use. Thank you for a lovely useful product, Andrew James Ltd.!

Superb - and long lasting - bread slicer
We bought this after a couple of failed attempts at using (rather cheap) manual slicers for our home-made loaves (from a Panasonic SD-2501). The manual slicers each managed about a month's service before breaking. After giving up on the 10 quid options and realizing that we were going to have to spend a bit more to get a decent slicer, it became a choice between "The Neat Bread Slicer" (another manual slicer, albeit a very nice looking sturdy one, price 50 quid), or this electric slicer (also 50 quid). Despite a few worrying reviews from people complaining about it tearing the bread, we decided to go for the electric option and so far it's turned out to be an excellent choice. The good points: provided the bread isn't ridiculously crusty (like a French-style loaf), it's had no problems slicing neatly and cleanly. The crust can take a little patience (just go slow), and I'm not convinced the included "bread blade" is actually better than the "universal blade" that is installed by default (we generally just stick with the universal blade), but I'm happy to report no problems at all with slicing bread (do wait for it to cool first though - you can't slice it fresh out of the oven!). The variable width controls are also handy; personally I like quite a thin slice - 10-11mm, while my girlfriend is enamoured of chunky slices at the maximum 15mm the unit offers. We've also used it for slicing cheese (absolutely no problems at all - fantastic results). The one thing we've yet to try it with is a joint of ham, but given the successes so far, I anticipate no serious problems in this area. Safety-wise, the unit is excellent - every part of the blade that can be reasonably covered, is. The guards on the food tray, and the blade lock all feel sturdy (despite being plastic). Some reviewers have noted the unit feels slow - I'd say it doesn't look like a circular saw when it's running, but then it's meant for cutting food, not wood. Despite the relatively slow revolutions of the blade, it's never struggled with anything we've put through it (although you may have to go a little slower on tough things). The bad points: as other reviewers have pointed out, the locations where pieces of the unit attach to the main body are annoyingly good at collecting crumbs and debris, and are a bit of a pain to clean. I realize it's a reasonably cheap unit and therefore a single-shell construction is asking a bit much - but given it's a device which will need regular cleaning a little more thought could've gone into this aspect of the design. The power button feels a little oddly positioned and it's a little strange that it's an on-off toggle. I would've thought it would be safer to have a hold-on button on the opposite side to ensure one is holding the unit with both hands when operating (although come to think of it, that would make it unusable for anyone with one arm). Overall, very satisfied. I think we've found our solution to slicing home-made bread. Update: it's now 9 years later ... and this unit is still going strong! Not replaced a single thing, despite it getting a daily work-out slicing stuff. Mostly bread, so I can't pretend we're really stressing it but still: 9 years solid service is nothing to sneeze at these days! Upgrading to 5 stars because although my quibbles above still stand, I can forgive them all for the sheer longevity and reliability.

ANDREW JAMES FOOD SLICER
Arrived well packed & in good condition. We researched this well on line we already new of the Andrew James brand, so the choice was a no brainer. Details online of the machine are clear & precise which helps in making a decision. First thing you notice is it is well built & sturdy. The machine comes assembled & ready to use Jan who bakes all our bread & cooks our gammon hams wanted to try this product out. So we duly put a medium sized loaf in the slicer it sits well on its rubber suction feet so is easy to operate. We tried the bread blade, but as this loaf was just out of our bread maker we reverted to the multi purpose blade, which soon made short work of the loaf. Blades are easy to change 2p bit in the plasic blade retainer bolt twist the blade is out offer the new blade up twist again ready to use. You will be able to afford the 2p due to the fab discounts given by Andrew James.Cutting the loaf is much the same as in a bakers/butchers by moving it backwards & forwards over the blade, be firm but not fast give the machine time to cut. Easy to clean brush or tap the machine by lifting the food carriage, thats it.There are really only two main controls blade thickness & on off button both are visable & easy to use. Butter the new bread honey/jam or nice bit of ham in a sarnie, food fit for a king. Excellent machine.

Adequate product for the price.
This is a nice domestic slicer which I use to slice my homemade biltong. This is the second slicer that I've bought. It looks good and feels solid with an easy mechanism to select the width of the slice required and a large no nonsense on of switch as well as replacement blades which is handy. The reason it's 4 rather than 5 stars is that it rotates at a relatively slow speed compared to my last slicer and can occasionally catch the meat rather than slice it cleanly. Also the mechanism to remove the blade requires a coin or something to twist to unlock it, rather than just a knob like my other slicer, which made it easier to remove the blade to clean between each use. Overall an ok product for the price.
