In present time, one of the girls’ sisters has become a forensic pathologist. After performing an autopsy on someone from her sister’s past, she begins looking into the unsolved disappearance. The story moves back and forth between the past and the present , unraveling the events from before the kidnapping until the present day. It was a true mystery for me, an avid suspense/thriller reader. I can usually guess the ending beforehand, but with all its twist and turns it kept me guessing until the shocking end. Review: Captivating - Fast pace, short chapters, intriguing and captivating story. Wish it would be more about the actual kidnapping then the events after but overall a great book , can’t rated it 5 stars because it was at times so long and less about the abduction but totally recommend it. 8/10

Charlie Donlea could write the phonebook and I'd read it
Hands down, Charlie Donlea is my favorite mystery writer, and The Girl Who Was Taken is a perfect example of why. This book pulled me in immediately and kept the tension high the entire time. The pacing is sharp, the stakes are clear, and every chapter makes it very difficult to stop “just one more” from turning into five. Twists? Plenty. Suspense? Relentless. That creeping feeling that you should absolutely go to sleep but cannot because you need one more chapter? Constant. Donlea has a talent for pacing that should honestly be studied. Every reveal feels earned, every character keeps you guessing, and just when you think you’ve figured it out, the book politely proves you wrong. I flew through this and immediately wanted to reread it just to admire how skillfully I was misled. If you love psychological thrillers that are smart, tense, and impossible to put down, this is a must-read. Five stars. Cancel your plans. Trust Charlie Donlea. 📚🔍

Ok Book. Not Great.
This was my first book by this author. I have to agree with other readers that the first half of the book is filled with "fluff" that has little to do with moving the plot forward. I had to slog through the first half wondering when it was time to pull the book mark and put it down. But once I got to the second half of the book the authors skill at writing really showed through. I read the second half of the book in one sitting. I couldn't put it down. And because of that I am willing to try other books written by him. I do recommend the book but with the following piece of advice. Skim read the first half, half of that stuff is irrelevant.

THE THOUGHTS OF THE MORGUE
Very intense subject matter and the people who try to solve such difficult and awful crimes. Not something to read in bed!

The plot was clever, lots of red herrings but the ending was quite a surprise, never suspected that character to be the one 'whodunit'.

No começo achei que não gostaria do livro pelo tipo de detalhes e enredo.. porém foi me cativando a cada capítulo com o suspense. Nunca escrevi uma avaliação e certamente esse livro merece uma. Surpreendente o final. Amei

Raced through this book - really enjoyed the story. So many red herrings .. never 100% sure Loved the heroine’s story .. through her guilt over her sister’s disappearance and her quest to find out what had happened to her.
