Deka Temperature Correcting Battery Hydrometer (00231)

Bought a plastic battery tester at the local auto parts store and it sucked. I took three readings, back to back, of the same cell and got three different results. Their is a reason glass hydrometers are the standard for commercial battery testing, they work. In Aviation its all we use, and in a pinch I though I could get away with the plastic CHEAPO. This works awesome. Gives great, repeatable, readings of the state of charge of the battery. Price was great, shipping was FAST! I would buy this again in a heartbeat!

This is a basic hydrometer for testing specific gravity of battery acid. The better the charge, the higher the float floats.Colder water is denser and due to temperature caused density changes, one needs a correction graph to account for these density changes. This battery hydrometer does both, tells one the density of the battery acid being tested and includes a temperature correction gauge so one can add/subtract any temperature caused reading offset.This is a basic unit, with, like a turkey baster, a vacuum based suction ball at the top so one can draw battery acid up into the glass tube, a float with numbers on it so one knows what the specific gravity of the battery acid is and a temperature correction gauge so one can correct for temperature caused density changes and at the bottom of the glass tube is a suction tube plug to be place into the battery cell where the battery acid is stored to be drawn up for testing purposes.A suggestion, save the card the battery hydrometer is attached to because it has on the back, reminders of what to look for as to specific gravity readings which tell one how well the battery is charged.That's it. This is an excellent piece of gear, at an excellent delivered price to have in one's automotive kit and I feel comfortable recommending this product. I gave it five stars as there's no reason to knock a star off the rating chart.WARNING; be sure to thoroughly rinse this unit off before putting it away as left behind drips of battery acid can and will, if not rinsed off thoroughly, cause corrosion where ever it's laid down.I hope the above helps in your buying decision.

I bought this hydrometer to replace one I dropped and broke. I have two others but with the amount of batteries I maintain, one can never have too many hydrometers laying around.I have used hydrometers for years maintaining deep cycle batteries and have learned the ones with the pointer are a joke. You can test the same cell three different times and get three different readings. If they show anything other that 1.260 (100% charged) they are inaccurate. I simply cannot trust my batteries to a inaccurate tester.You really MUST use a hydrometer with a floating cylinder like this one. Pointers, floating balls, disks, etc. are just not accurate enough to bet your expensive batteries on!Now on to this little jewel:You will not find a hydrometer that is this accurate, in this price range anywhere. I compared the readings from this tool with readings from my much, much more expensive Freas hydrometer and the readings were so close you could not read a difference without a magnifying glass.The other big feature is this too has a built in thermometer. You MUST know the electrolyte temperature in order to get a valid reading! Instead of simply showing the degrees, this meter has a scale on it telling you how many "points" to add or subtract to your reading. Much more user friendly than using a separate thermometer to read temp.The thermometer on this unit is dead on.I am not one who usually writes reviews, but for this tool I had to. It is a great accurate meter for a great price. Not sure where you could go wrong unless you dropped it. In that case order a spare. They are cheap enough!I will be ordering a couple more to have around and a few to give as gifts.

Tested arrived on time and worked as expected, would recommend.

Glassvtube broke on assembly very fragile, I doubt it would survive repeated use.

I bought one of these many years ago loved it and recently my wife dropped and broke it. The new one is the same quality as the old and works great. It is hard to get out of the packaging and prepare for its first use though.

Very pleasea with product, but unfortunately it broke when I was opening packaging. Seller was extremely understanding and refunded my costs.
