This is a gift to Rottweilers and Rottweilers soon-to-be parents!
Rottweilers and dogs, in general, have a lot to teach us about unconditional love, play, learning to enjoy the small things in life and not holding grudges. We also have a lot of things to teach our pets, but how can we learn to effectively communicate and train our pup without losing patience? Each dog learns a little differently, but in this book Mark Manfield provides a not only humane way to train but a way that succeeds. He gives detailed, easy step-by-step techniques that not only train the dog but the human as well. The layout is well done and easy to follow and easy to navigate when you're wanting to work on specific skills.Outcome So Far:Since adopting Mark's tips from this book, I've seen leaps and bounds in communication with my two dogs. Admittedly, mine came kennel trained, are obsessed with grooming (teeth brushing, fur brushing), loving bath time, ignore cars, and haven't learned all the tricks he teaches yet (since we haven't gotten to all of them) so I can't attest to all the techniques. The ones I've tried, however, have done wonders. My Rottweilers sit, they stay consistently (even from far distances and with distractions). His leash tips and technique got my dogs walking without pulling in less than 2 weeks and they're 5 months old. They're by no means all the way trained, but, as mentioned before, I haven't got all the way through the book yet. The basic skills, however, are pretty close to meeting expectations and they perform them better than some of my neighbor's dogs. I'm excited to see where they end up after they've graduated from learning all the tips and tricks in this bookWhen I started looking for Rottweiler books because we had a new Rott puppy on the way, I was so happy to find that training techniques have started moving in the direction of positive reinforcement instead of the “Alpha Dog” approach. It’s a really easy and fun read, as many of the sections in the book have been greatly written in a way that's interesting yet effective. This is wonderful if you’re not much of a reader. I’m a big reader myself, but when it comes to learning to do something, I’m very visual and his way of writing is great!! You can tell he really has a passion for training and loves the animals so much.I would definitely recommend this book to anyone with a Rottweiler puppy or adult dog who needs help.

The most personable treatment of the Rottweiler you are going to find.
Mark Mansfield’s Bible is an essential read for anyone contemplating owning or wishing to understand Rottweilers. The stigma of violence associated with this dog is based on misconceptions assigned to the breed and to dogs in general. The author provides a comprehensive description of this otherwise goofy and fun loving family of canine. The point being, as Mr. Mansfield quite rightly points out: Bad owners create bad dogs. The writer owns Rottweilers himself. His knowledge of the breed is first hand. I have a friend with three and I’ve watched these enormous lunks attempt to perch on his knee as if they were chihuahuas so I can vouch for what the author describes which is different from public perception.“Sometimes around 74 AD, the Roman army travelled across the Alps into what is known as Southern Germany. There, the drover dogs were used for the next two centuries for herding and guarding cattle.” There was a town in the region, he tells us, named Rottweil. He follows this working dog’s history, describing the motivations for breeding, the variety of breeds in detail, up until the present age. He provides a comprehensive list of up to date Rottweiler resources.Mr. Mansfield is an advocate for dogs in general and the right attitude of human owners. He explains why, better than most, that selecting a dog is such a personal choice and a two-way street as far as the dog is concerned as well: One is essentially inviting a “dog person” (my word), with its very specific personality traits, into one’s home. He provides the reader with more than enough information to decide whether this dog person would be a good match. The author’s writing, his language, is personable; you feel that he is actually speaking to you in the same room and not only that, really wants you to understand what he’s saying.I’ll point out that in all his books, Mr. Mansfield addresses the institution of the puppy mill, where profit is more important than dog well-being. His explanations and insight into the commerce of dogs and dog selling are eye opening and disturbing.Mansfield covers all the territory the other books do: Breeding, Grooming, Training, Nutrition, and Health Issues. In each case, the treatment his complete guided by experience as to what is most important aspect of each category. This would be an essential book for prospective Rottweiler owners.

Covers all the basics and then some.
Having owned several Rotties over the last 30+ years it's always good to learn new handling tricks and processes. The book covered 80% of what I already knew, and the extra 20% was worth the price.

Absolutely a "must-have" for all Rottweiler owners
Excellent book for those who want understand Rottweiler and train their dog the correct way, meaning without inflicting unnecessary pain of all that nonsense.Excellent book for those who want to understand Rottweiler and train their dog the correct way, meaning without inflicting unnecessary pain of all that nonsense. everybody. It pays to read each page without skipping, there are many "Aha !" moments, as well as "I never imagined that" moments. It is not a training guide but it will make training your dog, as well as choosing a trainer much easier.

Overpriced, sloppy, and short
As others have said, this book is littered with typos and gibberish. I’m embarrassed for the author. It’s also very short and contains very little information you can’t get on the web. Given the cost of the book, I’m very disappointed. I don’t normally leave reviews, but I’m doing so here to help bringing down the misleading 4-star average.

Short read
This book was a very short read. I did not like that it was not very well written. When you buy a published book, you expect it to be grammatically correct. There were a lot of run on words and sentences. The book was very basic.

Highly recommend this book.
I bought this book for my daughter annd son n law to go with thier new puppy. They are finding it very helpful they've even learned a few things they wish they'd known earlier. Rottweilers being more susceptible to parvo for one had they known they would have waited till she had all her puppy shots. They got her to a vet early and he was able to save her but it was a scary time. A blood transfusion early was key.
