Lions, Tigers, and Bears, (and More), Oh My!
Wood blocks that even an adult wants to build with. A child’s future starts with the power of simple wooden blocks. The blocks have a fantastic finish, which on one hand is durable, on the other delicate. The blocks are not to be immersed in water and no chemicals to use to clean, not even baby wipes, as the ingredients might affect the water-based finish, such as softening up the finish causing them to become tacky. The cleaning suggestion is a warm damp rag that has as its solution a water and vinegar essence (germ killer) mix. We are talking just a few drops in a quart of water kind of mix. These (25) durable, solid, incredibly smooth, colorful, made in Germany, beechwood building blocks, themed as cute animals, a: lion, tiger, bear, giraffe, crocodile, and zebra are the three (3) dimensional foundational building blocks to develop our childrens’ hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, spatial awareness and reasoning. These simple blocks are powerful learning tools. Haba blocks help to develop our children’s’ creativity, assist in their efforts at problem solving and engineering skills, build on their critical thinking skills, and help them to develop social competence (got to share). Haba blocks allow children to build, build, build, using the animal parade theme as their background. The characters keep our children interested and enthused. Wondering where is that lion or tiger or bear or giraffe or crocodile, or zebra are in all those wooden blocks, of different shapes and sizes. These blocks help our children to be more creative, block by block, encouraging creativity and stimulating their imagination, repeatedly. Our children use their hands in coordination with what they see. This makes them think. The combinations can be very colorful, based on the block’s colors and order of placement. This taxes the thought processes and coordination skills. Their creations are only limited by their imagination, at that moment in time. This is premium priced, compared to simple plastic/rubber blocks. These are made from solid beech wood. Something that may have been around 50+ years ago but is a rarity today. Also, there is a purpose to this, it’s to challenge the mind carefully, logically, and methodically. Yes, we would select these colorful, fun, entertaining, and mind challenging blocks again, and we have, but different theme… Within reason, we try to present to our children, everything that assists in their development, as it’s a big competitive world out there. These are sturdy, will last for years, and makes a great gift. We hope our thoughts assisted in any decision.

Love HABA toys
I worked in a children’s specialty shop that sold clothing, toys and cute imported items (mostly from Japan). Majority of the things we sold were whimsical. HABA was one of the brands we regularly carried. Children would always come in with their parents and left w/something. The girls loved the HABA dolls & boys gravitated towards the board games or some kind of puzzle. I consider HABA innovative, high-quality, heirloom toys. Idk why I never went back to get any for my kids. Well if I’m being honest, I never liked to clutter my home especially with toys so buying HABA wasn’t a priority. I’m constantly decluttering and donating stuff so maybe I also didn’t want to spend $$$ or even chance being attached to toys just because I paid A LOT for them. I was so happy to find this building block set here. My youngest is at the perfect age to play with them. It holds his attention for only a short time <15 min but the set as a whole is so cute and he keeps going back to them. We’re definitely keeping it around for a while. The quality is top-notch and the blocks are smooth & safe. I would totally recommend this set. It would make a great gift!

Very well made / early nursery school age
I'm a fan of Haba toys. Simple and well made, they are great developmental toys. I think this set is great but it maybe best in a nursery school setting where it can be used over and over again by groups of kids. In a home setting, I think the play and creativity value gets old after a few weeks. The big feature of the set is that you're building whatever creature you want, and if you want a beast with heads at both ends, then great. Once built, the creatures aren't easy to move around or build a storyline with because they're going to fall apart. In this way it hits a very specific play-function and then cuts short. In the context of a nursery school, where lots of kids can have input on the building, the toy takes on much greater potential.

Excellent
I was a little skeptical that this sells for $199... but after seeing these (and how the children use them), I understand. Yes, they are blocks. The materials alone are not expensive and you could conceivably make them. But there would be the time involved, etc. But that's true of orthodontics too - the materials aren't expensive but you're paying for expertise. In this case, it's the field-tested, well though out balance of shapes, sizes, etc. Compared with other wooden block sets that we already have (which the kids love and use), this set is the clear winner (and the kids have no idea of the price). They take to it. The shapes, handling sizes, etc, are clearly "designed" and were probably site tested & refined for kids. A word on open ended play - we love it. It yields creativity, and helps imagination. I much prefer to hear the kids playing with blocks than just about any other toy - and notice all ages, including adults, joining in with them. Certainly beats any kind of electronic, or movie-driven toy. Literally the nicest set of blocks I've seen. It kept my children and friends children interested for hours. We've had a great experience with this brand. Highly recommend.

Colorful and well made
These are beautiful high quality block made by HABA. The different shapes and colors allow for a lot of creativity— and are great for smaller children. They are vibrantly painted— each block in the set is perfectly sanded and finished. You can tell care was taken making these. These blocks are made from sustainable wood sources from a very environmentally-minded company, which I believe justifies the price along with the quality. If taken care of, these could be passed down or used for multiple children. The quality is just that good.
