Please be aware these dowels are 12mm not 1/2" as specified

Good value. I have used 52 dowels so far and they are pretty consistent. 5/16 is slightly small for 8 mm holes so they are not all tight fits. But with glue, it’s fine. It’s great that they come in cardboard boxes.

I used them as screw plugs. Just built new hand rails for my deck. To hide the screws on top, I just drove the brown #8 decking screws further into the 2x4, about 1/2 inch. Put a little glue on the end and hammered these into the hole on top of screw. The 5/16 size fits in the hole perfectly, nice and tight. Once glue dried, I cut off the remains with multi tool, and then a small amount of sanding. Hoo Haa, screw hole has now disappeared. Price much cheaper than the big box stores. I would buy again if needed.

Bought a box of 1/2". Actual diameter as measured with calipers is between 0.450 and 0.460" or around 11.5-11.6mm. This is far too small for a 1/2" hole. Maybe if you had a 29/64 or 15/32 drill you could use them, but obviously no one makes a dowel jig for that size. The fit is so loose they're useless, there's no way they swell enough with glue to hold anything. I only regret waiting so long to open them that I can't return them
