Good quality steel at a good price
The steel is flat and consistent in thickness, flatness and width. The picture makes it look like the surface has dark scale. It does not. It is a shiny surface that takes layout blue and clear scribe lines. The description say it is annealed but working it with a file is a chore. It grinds readily and drills with no issue. I use cobalt drills. Overall a good product. I have not heat treated it yet but it should be fairly straight forward.

Makes a good knife.
Steel is great. Made a beautiful strong knife out of it that is holding a good edge. The other reviews that talk about rust spots or warps in the steel are people just being Karen’s. None of that matters if you are going to forge it anyways. This was a great buy and I’m very happy.

It is what it is. 3 1095 Steel Billets.
Just Arrived. Came with no scales, minor rust on one billet (sanded off in 3 minutes of hand- sanding, nothing serious). Exactly what I expected. Probably will be purchased again.Note that the metal comes (as expected) dirty (sort of dust). when opening the package, I recommend doing so over an old newspaper, and cleaning it with some paper towel. A small wipe of the billets will save cleaning the storing place later on.I have not checked yet if it is indeed annealed. I also do not care so much, but this should be noted (as I remember reading reviews that stated it was not annealed).

the steel did harden and seems to be pretty good.
the bars are large enough to make some knives from(a practical maximum of about four small ones per bar), made a couple of test knives to dial in the heat treat, the steel did harden and seems to be pretty good.edit; took a couple of attempts but I have dialed in the temper steel seems to be good.

If it was easy everyone would do it.
Not so much a review as much as a rebuttal to the negative reviews. Always anneal your own steel. Steel will rust welcome to the world of chemistry. If it’s not straight just remember that you want to be a blacksmith and that’s why we have hammers.

Great steel!
I have used this steel from RMP a number of times, and never had any problems with any of my orders other than the bars having a slight warp. That is nothing problematic at all. The steel behaves exactly as 1095 should. And, it always arrives completely annealed. I have never had any problems cutting the bars.

Good for forging don't expect perfect size and shape.
Currently using these for the first time. The items received where not annealed so first thing I did is heat up to critical and then air cooled one and then Ash cooled the other and I left one untuched to show you the difference.I am working on a video and will post it soon.Out of the bag the 3 I received all scated a file so I know they can definitely be hardened.Update photos and video soon and will also be on ForgedFireandWater soon.

cant beat it for the $
Great all around steel for knife making. 1095 is cheap but is does the job well. These come looking almost polished so that saved a lot of work on the back end as well. Great buy
