Pays for itself
Xtool D1 Pro came beautifully packaged with really helpful manuals and accessory tool kit. Even included sample materials and some lubricant, I assume for the guide rails, which BTW are steel, not plastic. Which brings me to comment on how well the D1 Pro is built, really solid and very good looking. I got the golden red one. It was easy to set up and the free software downloaded from Xtool is all you need. Since I bought my machine Xtool has upgraded the software to the point I do not feel I need to purchase any other software because the xTool Creative Space doe everything I need it to do. I bought the 5 watt but since its easy to upgrade, I also purchased the Infra red module from xTool which can engrave on metal. xTool's support has been phenomenal. they always respond to my inquiries. I had a really old Mac Book that had issues running Creative Space but they helped me out and no more issues. BTW Creative Space now runs wirelessly on iPads and iPhones so you don't even need a computer anymore. The best part is that the machine has literally paid for its self. Actually more than paid for its self. There is a huge market out there for all the things you can make with this laser. I'm having a ball creating things with my new machine.

Xtool stands behind their Laser
Nice little laser for engraving. Simple to learn and simple to use. I had a laser module problem and support figured it out and sent me a new one with minimal downtime. They were very helpful.

Laser Fun Might Turn In To Cash
Bought this on a whim when I had some unexpected extra cash. I like to make woodworking projects and mostly for myself, family or friends. I thought being able to etch things like cutting boards would be a fun addition to my repertoire. I bought the cheapest, 5W unit and once I got it immediately started etching wood to play around. Quickly moved into etching slate coasters, since that is what you do when you have a laser. I will likely go ahead and buy the 20W or 40W in the future as I like the idea of etching faster and cutting much thicker wood. The XTOOL SW, website and support is awesome. While the SW Lightburn is available and pretty cheap, the XTOOL Creative Spaces (XCS) is very good and they have already made improvements since I have had the laser for the last month or so. After showing some friends, they look like they will be buying some version of the XTOOL laser systems. Cool! So, now that I have shown some people what I can do, I have been asked to make some custom coasters and other wood etching and will be making money doing that. Very Cool! Now, I just want to make enough to buy a more powerful laser module or go all out and get the 40W version.

Update
UPDATE: It took a few days but they got back to me. The email came as I was literally about to disassemble the machine to return. Their instructions did not help at all EXCEPT When I started up the software I was asked if I wanted to download an updated version of the software. I did - and it works fine after the update... ---------------------------------- Assembled easily with the thorough instructions. EXCEPT there is one thing that needs to be plugged in that was not in the instructions - so the laser didn't work. As I was going over the connections I found one plug tucked in a hidden place. Maybe it was supposed to be plugged in at the factory - so thats why it wasn't in instructions? Once connected it worked. EXCEPT after a few test runs I noticed that the Framing (used to test where exactly a cut/engraving would be made) was not aligned with where the laser actually starts to engrave/cut - this makes the device very tough - if not impossible - to use correctly. I had hoped there was some sort of calibration tool buried in the software - but couldn't find one. Calls and emails to Xtool remain unanswered - so no choice other than to take it apart and return it to Amazon

Sent with bad lens
For a month I have been trying to figure out why I couldn’t cut material using xtool settings. Everything was inconsistent. After doing research I found that lens was bad. I thought that’s impossible as it was brand new. But sure enough, bad lens. Cost $15 just for shipping of a new one, tried reaching out to customer service but just a bot. Update: xTool reached out to me after my review to assist with the issue. I did get an new lens and machine worked great. I even upgraded the laser to a 20w. Also I have to give the company some credit. One they go out of their way to help the customer long after the purchase. Two they are constantly upgrading the creative space program. I really like the creative space as I can can use on my phone or computer. I save the projects on a cloud and can access any where I go. There are tons of free Designs you can use and processing images from out side the program has improved 1000%. XTool is a company trying to make it mark, and not by just making a buck, but rather by truly giving their customers a quality product with ability to fully realize their creative potential. Thanks XTool team for everything!

complicated and frustrating for a beginner
I wish I had believed more reviews before purchasing this laser engraver before Christmas. When it finally got here after a long shipping period, I was excited about all my crafting ideas but my excitement quickly turned to frustration in the setup. Right out of the box, the assembly was complicated with so many tiny screws, wires and connections that needed to be precisely configured even with the instruction booklet included. I was surprised a supposedly highly precise piece of machinery isn't already constructed and calibrated for the user. Once it was together, just be aware there truly isn't a base to this machine - they say to just put a small piece of provided metal under the item you're laser cutting - so be careful about the area you're working in. As you unpack the box, they also provide you with eyeglasses to protect you from the laser beam, but after reading all their warnings, I am still worried about safety honestly. Other laser cutters I looked at have entire lids, which I wish I got after seeing this in person. Once I finally got it assembled, the WiFi connectivity became a major headache. Apparently, my network name couldn't contain any special characters - so I had to change mine (and then every single connected item in my house, still a total nightmare) yet then finally connected with USB instead, but even that has been sketchy. Trying to set up a project to test, there are limited settings available and it seems like you have to find your own for most things. This is my first laser engraver, so I have no idea how to figure those out. Also, I don't know what to do to ventilate this machine as it doesn't say much in the instructions about it. After putting it together on the kitchen table, I realized burning stuff should be done out of the house I guess - it was so cumbersome to move around I ended up putting it down on the floor of the garage with the door open. I'm more inclined to return this than contact customer service, based on the horror stories I read about their support in other reviews. While the price point seemed attractive, I got what I paid for. I wish I'd invested in an easier, more fun, and safer feeling laser for a beginner.

Great machine and solid customer service
I have the Xtool d1 pro and I upgraded the laser to the 20w. The laser machine is solid, well built and easy tot use. The software is well designed and updated frequently. I had trouble with the machine and even though it took a while, the company did send out replacements as needed until it was resolved.

So much you can do for so little!
This was my first purchase in the world of laser engraving, and it is so worth the price of entry! The D1 5 Watt laser easily engraves wood, slate, glass and even stainless steel! There are helpful videos to help with setup, and customer service is helpful and responsive. I've since purchased a 2nd laser to keep at our vacation home. The air-assist accessory is an essential for improving all cuts and engraving.
