One of my better purchases.
There are hundreds of hot pots available, some less, some more expensive. The Chef's Choice Cordless stainless steel pot lives up to the item description, heats up very quickly, shuts off automatically. The large opening and lid is the main reason for my purchase decision. Other electric pots have openings just big enough to add water to and/or have an exposed heating element, this is a real pot. A full pot of water takes 6 minutes to a full rolling boil and 10 seconds thereafter to auto-shutoff. A silicone plug inside the pot keeps foreign objects from entering the water level gauge. It's a multi-purpose tool, simple, well-designed appliance. Update: In use over a year now, and it's still working great. I have had none of the problems some reviews reported. Well worth the investment. 2nd update: Happy to report, it's still working great. One of my better purchases.

Great electric kettle
Saw this featured on Good Eats with Alton Brown. We were in the market for some kind of kettle to use with our Bodum french press since heating up water in a pot or in the microwave just didn't really work well. We love the idea of an open kettle that you can clean easily as we have hard water and if you leave water sitting in a conventional kettle on the stove, eventually the inside gets coated in mineral deposits and you can't really reach them well. This kettle is VERY fast to heat water (or Alton Brown says he'll heat clear broth too, but since the liquid goes into the water level meter thing, I'd be leary of doing anything too messy) and is very easy to clean. The only weirdness is the cord hiding in the base. That, in itself, is kind of nice. But the way it coils around is a little odd and ours doesn't wrap in such a way that when it's fully unwound that it sits flat. The cord doesn't make it to the notch it exits when it's fully wrapped up. I might cut my own notch to match where it is when it's totally unwound. Other than that, it's great. Fast hot water without a hot tap. Good stuff!

Even BETTER than Alton Brown describes unit !!
Great product, as advertised. Heats full amount of water to a boil with-in minutes. Reccomended by Alton Brown (good Eats). Just as described, I put 6 eggs in, filled with water, pressed button. Unit heated quickly to a boil, shut off automatically and waited 10-12 minutes, cooled the eggs and they were absolutely perfect, I've never had a better boiled egg! Excellant for soups and other beverages, including coffee. Cleans easily do to stainless steel construction and the heating element not being exposed. Cordless adds benefit of "no cord" to worry about while handeling a pot of boiling liquid. Highly reccomended.

It can heat you up!
This is the best hot water kettle I have ever used! This is my second in 16 years (that is remarkable). I love it ease and efficiency. You can boil water or even eggs, as the lid opens wide enough to reach in and retrieve things! The lid stays open while you are filling it. The water viewing window is clear and easy to read. The pot is stable and solid. I’m buying more for gifts! Highly recommend!!!!

Quality product, Works great
Yes, it does work great. However, toward the top of the pot there must have been a flaw in the metal material. It developed a vertical crack which allowed water to seep out when heated. It still works fine and I'll continue using it unless the crack deepens and a more prominent leak occurs. I didn't discover the crack until I had been using it for about 3 months. So, I'm not sure when the crack occurred or if is actually came with that flaw in the material.

Huge, stainless, has a glass fill-line tube
Bought this for my daughter going off to college, as she has allergies and likes to have an option or two for when she can't eat the stuff offered. Well, it is huge, holding about a half gallon. The inside surface is clean and unbroken EXCEPT for the small round opening where water goes into the glass tube to show fill level. The base fits well and the cord winds up around it. If someone were to make soup or cook pasta in this, it would probably make the glass fill-line tube nasty. In fact, you may decide to throw it out as you couldn't clean it. I found some extra-thick, short bamboo skewers at the store and clipped them with heavy shears so the pointed end would fit snugly into the plastic-lined hole inside. She has not used this for anything murky yet, so we don't know how well that will work. It certainly boils a lot of water in a reasonable time! In my opinion, this product would be better (maybe cheaper too) without the glass fill-line tube. I believe that function is more important on a coffee urn or other such item, that stays in use for prolonged periods. That said, even though it has the tube, which we don't like, it seemed a miracle to me when I found this item offered, as I had never seen such a large one, and it has no plastic or nasty aluminum inside (except the tiny silicone-looking ring at the water tube opening)...so I have to say I do "love it" and have to give 5 stars, and hope the skewer thingys will work!

So far, so good
I bought this because it looked easy to clean and the heating elements would not be exposed to our hard water. So far, so good. The description on this site says it's perfect for heating soups, hot chocolate, etc., but the instruction booklet specifically states to heat nothing in it except water. I suppose a watery broth would be okay, but nothing with low water content. It is rather noisy when heating water, but it looks good, goes easily on and off the base, is easy to clean, and it heats fast. If it doesn't malfunction, then I'll be satisfied with it. (Note: It's now 2010 and it's still working. You have to pour hot water slowly or you get a splash instead of a stream--so I pour slowly and all is well.) 2012 and my husband thinks the water tastes funny. I think the water tastes fine and I still use it in my office. So we're going on 7 years of use. 2014 and I'm using it in the kitchen again and it still works great.

This kettle is fast. It boiled the full contain in 6 minutes. No strange smell while the plastic feels medium quality. It claims stainless but magnets cling on the body pretty well so I have doubt for this. Other than these 2 points, the kettle does its job pretty well. I'll be back if any issue happens!
