True, Vitamin E's with a dl prefix The natural form has a prefix of just d-alphaHere are the differences: alpha-tocopherol is the most biologically active form of Vit E. Which contains one isomer. In contrast, synthetics contain eight isomers, of which only one is identical to natural Vit E. Therefore, the potency of each synthetic varies. Hope this helps 
