Epic Stories For Kids and Family - Historic Events That Changed The World: Fascinating History to Inspire & Amaze Young Readers Review: Impressive take on the key events of history (particularly 1948) - This is a very interesting take on the key events in human history. Who is Yoko Shimomura? Read this well-constructed, well-organized short book to find out. Why is 1948 important? Well, that's the year I was born. In addition to that world-shaking event (not), though, I was amused to find out it was the only year in the book given not one but THREE key historical highpoints (me not included). Each section is short, interesting, and very readable. A number of illustrations are used to good effect. Overall, this is an excellent summation of key happenings and people (some famous, others not so obvious) contributing to making the world we live in. This is a great book for kids (and even adults looking back on their birthdays) to read, giving a real appreciation of the gigantic struggles and upheavals upon which present society stands. Bravo! Review: Very Informative! - This book is a well-written collection of 55 episodes about civilizations, people, inventions, and important world history and cultural events. The episodes are short and concise and start from the early times to modern-day ones. Each topic can stand alone, so the reader from the Table of Contents could pick topics of interest rather than reading straight through if desired. Illustrations at the beginning of each chapter add interest. I liked how each episode started with a similar scenario to which the reader could relate. There was also an appropriate “moral” after each story about such things as the value of perseverance, or don’t believe everything you hear or read. There is an extensive list of references at the end, which readers can access for further reading about a topic. My only criticism would be that the age range shown for this book is 6 to 18 years. The text's vocabulary is at a much higher level than what a six-year-old could understand. Some words are explained in the reading, but many others are not. Some examples are: intermediary, aristocrat, siege, and debatable from one chapter. A glossary of terms would be helpful. I enjoyed reading this book as an adult and learned a lot.

A very accessible way for children to get into history
Anything that can make history more relatable and absorbable is a good idea as far as I'm concerned. This book takes key moments from history and packages them into easily digestible chunks, which means you get a broad covering of the whole of history which is something that is often missing from history teaching in school, where the focus will be in depth on one period. The downside is, of course that the information is glossed over. The author states at the beginning that there are "at least 55 events that changed the world," and in reality, there are many more than 55 events - once you start looking at any subject in depth, you realise that the world changes from a complex interaction of many different factors that can't be covered in a couple of pages. However, I still recommend the book, because it is a very accessible way for children to get into history and that's a top priority.

Educational and Intriguing!
This book is FULL of true historical lessons for kids and adults! Ring Around the Rosie is from what? It is exceptionally written. Not only does it give you a history lesson, but there are cultural events woven in. I love the way it provides details without giving away the inventor or individual until close to the very end. Almost like a mystery. What else do I love? Each lesson ends aith a moral! Exceptionally well done!

Fun and Educational
This is a great book for an introduction to some of the most important events in history. The stories are easy to understand and span from the ancient times all the way until the present day. There is also a moral or an important point to take away from that chapter in history. This is a helpful book for kids who have interest in history, reading, and stories in general. It’s a great starting point and has a lot of variety. It’s a really fun way for kids to learn and get introduced to all the events that have led up to the present day. It’s truly the greatest hits of history!

Fantastic read! So much awesome history in a fun format
Love love love this book. Such a great family read for kids and adults even if the kids ages span widely. Fun to pick a topic at random to kick off a meal time conversation, or waiting for a table at a restaurant, or riding in the car, or when hosting friends. Younger kids enjoy the drawings and the facts. Written at an accessible level for younger to tween ages, but older kids and adults will also enjoy and learn - or relearn! So much history to learn that some inevitably slips away. Refreshing our learning with these pivotal points in history in this book is educational and FUN.

Educational and Entertaining!
Riddleland makes this a fun read by not revealing the person of interest until later, leaving a bit of mystery and guessing to the reader. From the book: "This book looks at those 55 turning points in world history. Each event is recapped, and the person who influenced the event is described. See if you can identify who the famous person is before the narrator reveals the name at the end of the essay." At the end of each chapter, there is a moral, much like Aesop's Fables. This is a great book for any age but is clearly for children to learn. However, as an educated adult, there were several I'd heard little-to-nothing about. -Michael Lacey, Best-selling Christian Devotional Author

A great read for any age
Part of the title of this book is a misnomer. It reads Fascinating history to inspire and amaze young readers. It should just read: to inspire and amaze readers. This book takes world history and boils it down to its fascinating highlights. It goes from Gilgamesh to the Atomic bomb. An excellent read for any age!

This is a fantastic history book for kids! It's in chronological order from the founding of Egypt in 5500 BCE through to 2020 Mars Exploration. There's something for everyone (children and adults) in the book; and each chapter is brief enough to be read swiftly, but full of interesting facts and information. The historical events are made relevant and relatable to real-life. Beautifully illustrated throughout too. Highly recommended!
