What can I say?!?! All of Karen's books are fantastic. This concept of holding for perinatal women is especially valuable in my opinion. There is so much change happening for a new mother. If the therapist (or anyone that cares about the mother) can just allow the mother to be and talk and think through all of it, then to feel heard and understood on top of that? Wow, what a way to support! Karen really gets to the heart of what is needed to hold space for women. I highly recommend this book for anyone who works with pregnant or postpartum families.

Important read for professionals!
Karen Kleiman is an expert in the field of maternal mental health, and as a psychotherapist specializing in maternal mental health myself, I value turning to her and her experience for guidance. This book is a great guide for professionals on one of the most important aspects of working with women in the postpartum period (and other clients too!).

If you work with postpartum or perinatal issues this is the book for you. Everything Kleinman writes is gold. I haven't finished the book yet but what i have read made me happy enough to write a review.

Not written for a postpartum momma! No empathy
Written for a therapist to help a client but NOT for a woman going through postpartum Personally. It’s written in a way that removes all empathy for the postpartum momma and is strictly textbook.

One sided. No empathy
If you are a new father, this book is not for you. Written specifically for women and last I checked the child can have a father too.
