Cholesterol Clarity: What the HDL Is Wrong with My Numbers?

Experts clearing up in the decades of Cholesterol misinformations
First time my cholesterol was measured was way back in 1975, but I first started buying books about cholesterol this month, 6 years ago, after then running into problems with doctors who wanted to put my wife on drugs because of her total cholesterol being higher than 200.In the next 3 to 4 years I then bought so many cholesterol books that I didn’t think that I ewer would be buying more. But when I then, by an accident, in Amazon, fell on this book, and discovering that it was written by the collaboration with 29 experts, of whom I recognized most, I had to order a copy.Particularly beneficial to me the book will be when I in the future am visiting doctors, no matter for what, and I again run into discussions concerning cholesterol, as this book then will be the perfect one to then put on the table. Because as this is a book actually made as the result of the knowledge from 30 cholesterol experts, and each of these without doubt having more knowing’s about the subject than the current doctor, who only will be repeating what he has been reading on the drug papers. That is, a book from 30 persons having parallel workings as the current doctor, put against the single person, instead of a book, as normally, only written by 1 person.I have been reading so much about Cholesterol, and owe around 300 doctor and health books, so that I was not expecting discovering something new. But as they write in the book, we still don’t know everything about all of the connections to and actions of the cholesterol in the body, and fortunately I in the book found many interesting subjects. For example it was very brilliant, as told in the book on the sides 51-52, to learn about Dr. Malcolm Kendrichs disproving graphs of the cholesterol against the heart disease, put into the Internet. Where it is shown that the Australian aboriginals are having the highest rates of heart disease, but the lowest levels of cholesterols, while opposite the Swiss are having the highest level of cholesterol, but are among the people with the lowest cases of heart diseases. I e-mailed the Internet address to many of my friends. And furthermore, on the side 135, I discovered a genetic disorder problem, the Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome, which I never before had heard about, by the result of which there in the bodies are being produced too little cholesterol, and thereby, small parts of the body can deform a bit, and in any case results in the persons having lower IQs than normal. I looked in my 2,500 sides (doctors) “Mosby’s dictionary” from 2009, in which there is written about this syndrome, but found nothing mentioned about the cholesterol! But thereafter I in Google found much detailed information, including the telling about, about, and pictures, as the result of the too low cholesterol. And I then ordered the only book which I could find about the Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome, this both for my private studying, and for getting one more proof against the doctors and the hospitals. Because some of the hospitals states that our total cholesterol shall be between 0 and 200. And now I during 6 years among other have argued against them that if we only are having 0 of cholesterol then our bodies cannot produced any D vitamins, and besides that we will collapse if we only are having 0 of cholesterol. But it’s a question if one more prof will make the doctors starting speculating and change their ideas.Besides all the interesting explanations we throughout the book are getting from experts, I among other also appreciate the chapter 21 for containing the 30 examples of cholesterol test results. But I highly would prefer that in all of the examples the measures had been equally organized from top to bottom, as I am used to in my science readings an writings, for having a quicker and easier comparing readings. Some of these examples, and other remarks from the book I will be putting into a new personal letter concerning the missing knowledge in the hospital, to a doctor, in the Lanna hospital, to whom I in this month am having a meeting, concerning quite other health problems. Furthermore the Cholesterol Clarity Testing Guide on the side 240 is also very helpful, so I have written a side containing the same testing guides to my private lexicon and for printings to the doctor/hospital as well, even though they of course just will throw it away; “burn it”. Quite a couple of the measures there stated the doctors and the hospitals don’t know anything about.I wrote that to me the cholesterol fighting against the doctors, and most of the Thais whom I know and who blindly trusts their doctors, actually started 6 years ago, after that I then together with my wife had been in a hospital for our blood measures. This was the first blood measures here in Thailand, where we then had stayed for 6 years, since we left Denmark, were I, 2 years earlier had met my Thai wife. We went to the RAM hospital, the one which in Chiang Mai is preferred by the foreigners. The blood results showed my total cholesterol to be 196, while it for my wife was 267, and her HDL on 114. So according to the 2 doctors, my health was perfect while my wife’s very bad, as the Cholesterol only was allowed in being between 0 and 200, and the HDL not being higher than 60. So she had to start on a drug like the Zocor, or ells she soon would die by a hearth attach. I then showed them that by using the calculating, shown in a Harvard Medical School book, for finding the probability in being hit by a hearth attach during the following 10 years, my change actually was 8 %, while for my wife only 2 %. And furthermore that the higher the HDL the better. But the doctors answered that as the RAM hospital is an International hospital then their ranges were correct and those from Harvard thereby had to be wrong! My wife of course trusted the doctors, and not me, but fortunately, in less than a week she got so sick by the drug, that she stopped taking it; else she would have been continued year after year. During the following 3 years I to one of the two doctors was showing up and lent him books, as for example the Bowden PhD & Sinatra MD. :”The Great Cholesterol Myth”, and the mentioned Harvard book, when I came to him in other cases, but nothing changed. As mentioned a couple of times in the book, some of the expert doesn’t care about having measured their own cholesterols, as they are living healthy. I am thinking in the same way, but for having measured other things in my blood, and finding out what another hospital knew about the daily eating and the cholesterol, I with my wife, 3 month ago, went to the Lanna hospital, for only haven taken some measures on me. Only for me, because my wife each year, during the previous last 3 years, had been to the blood measures in the Commune hospital, after the year earlier having been through a breast cancer surgery. This cancer without doubt the result of doctors, during 32 year after her uterus removals had put her on estrogen drugs, not a correct estrogen, and besides believing that women never needs progesterone, which she was missing after the uterus removal, and thereby increasing the change in breast cancer by 450 %. The doctors still don’t believe this, and still is giving women estrogen drugs, and progesterone pills still don’t exist in Thailand. In the Lanna hospital it showed up that they did not have a standard blood measuring program, and besides that among other, they for example could not measure the K2 in my blood as they didn’t know anything about what that could be! And in connecting to the blood measure I also wanted taking a thyroid scanning but it sounded like they did not know what I was talking about so also this had to be abandoned. So it ended with paying extremely much for in my blood just having measured its content of CRP, D, Ion, Homocysteine, and for the cholesterol: Total Cholesterol, LDL-C, HDL-C, Triglycerides, and VLDL-C. Actually I never received a measure of the VLDL-C. The cholesterol measuring just mentioned is the only cholesterol measures they know about, and do, here in Chiang Mai, even though I during years have talked about the small and big balls, oxidation and so on.The blood result I received by post, I don’t know why, but then we the next day went to the hospital to have a talk with a doctor. The paper showed that the Lanna hospital, as the RAM hospital, also was telling that the Cholesterol should be 0.000 – 199.000, to which I then to the doctor said: “This is wrong. Go to Dr. Mercola on the Internet, and you will see that 333 are fine”. To which the doctor answered that the Lanna hospital is an International hospital so that their statements are the correct one. Besides I from the doctor couldn’t get an explanation to how the Cholesterol number could be allowed going all the way down to only 0.000? I would like to meet a person only having 0.000 in Cholesterol. My Homocysteine showed up to be 11.98, which I told her was too high according to McCully, and showed her the book. She denied to see the book, and told that the number was fine as according to the hospitals paper it was allowed to be up to 16.2, and repeated that the Lanna hospital is an International hospital…... On the paper there was no measure of my sun vitamin/hormone, the D, for which I also had paid, and it showed up that the doctor did not understand what I had written on my paper concerning what I wanted to have measured in my blood, when we first were there. On one line I had written: D, D3 37 – 65 ng/ml. And the doctor asked what was meant by the D3; the D hormone consists of the D2, D3 and Calcitriol which the doctor didn’t know. Concerning my interest in measuring of the K2, of which the nurse didn’t know anything, it now showed up that neither did the doctor know anything, and she now just wanted me to leave, which I did, and then tried in the hospital to meet a doctor with whom I could have a talk concerning vitamins, blood, and so on, but in vain. I left the hospital highly chocked about the doctors missing knowledge concerning daily health.I just wrote that the hospitals don’t know about, and neither measures the K2 in our bloods, but on the side 120 in a “Moment of Clarity” we read about the important vitamins A, D, E, B6, B9, B12, and K2. And actually we here in Thailand are having the problems that beside that the doctors don’t know anything about the vitamins and minerals we actually in Thailand are missing quit a couple of these, that is they don’t exist in the hospitals and the pharmacies. And besides that, according to the lows, private persons are not allowed to from other order countries to buy simple vitamins as for example the K2! I discovered this when I 3 years ago by Amazon ordered a progesterone crème to my wife, and then got back an e-mail from Amazon telling me this. Progesterone then had not existed in Thailand during 11 years.Since then I have explained the problem to the doctors and to the pharmacies, and for example explained that when the Homocysteine is higher than 10 we in many places are reading that we have to start taking the vitamins Folic acid (B9), B6 and B12, but in Thailand the B9 doesn’t exist. And as my Homocysteine, as mentioned, showed up to be 11.98 it, probably would be perfect if I got the missing B9, besides the B6 and the B12 which I daily am taking. And as a remark, besides we among other also are missing the B3 as Niacin, as we only can get it as Niacinamid. But again, the doctors don’t know about the importance concerning our food and the needed vitamins either in the food or as pills, so instead they only solves the problems by surgeries and drugs.Concerning the vitamins, we on the side 43 reads that the egg is an incredibly nutritious, by how vitamins, minerals, and other things which the body requires. So we must think about changing the old wise words “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”, to instead being “An egg a day keeps the doctor away”, while actually an apple contains much sugar. An 82 years old Danish friend of mine, only living 5 miles from me, whom I now have been knowing during 10 years, 3 years ago had his blood measured, and since then has taken Zocor. This because the total cholesterol number was found to be 276, which according to the calculation from Harvard, in connections to his age, is fine, opposite to the doctor in the hospital, probably the Commune hospital, who immediately put him on the Zocor. I then lent my friend a book written by Uffe Ravnskov, and the first one written by Duane Graveline, and copies of the calculation sides from Harvard, and much more information, and have since then continued in informing him with more knowledge concerning cholesterol. But he only is thrusting the hospital doctors and his local pharmacist; the pharmacist whom I would like to meet, but can’t get the address to the pharmacy. Now my friend during 3 years have been taking Zocor, and soon it’s 1 year since he first time was hit by a mild heart attack, and half a year later by the second one, which only resulted in the doctor doubling the daily amount of Zocor! And my friend will not believe that there should be any side effects from the Zocor, because as the heart attacks first came 2 years after he had started taking Zocor, then how can they then be caused by the Zocor? But besides the two mild heart attacks he also started in getting muscle pains, and especially personality problem, resulting in some days being a totally different person from previous, among other very angry. With his strange conclusion that Zocor has nothing to do with his problems, I recall Sherlock Holmes words: “Logic dear Watson”. And still he is trying getting the cholesterol number down under 200 by using the Zocor, but actually it has not changed at all, and still the doctors and the pharmacist tells him that he will die by a heart attack if he stops taking the Zocor. As I wrote earlier, this will be the first book by me to be put in front of doctors saying that our total cholesterol not are allowed in being higher than 200, and then without doubt, as the first thing, open on the side 230 and first point on the example showing Jimmy Mores total cholesterol on 359. But actually, as mentioned in the book, our central problem is that without doubt it will take many years before we from the governments will be told that the total cholesterol number doesn’t matter. This because that to the drug producers it’s a big business concerning billions of $ a year.

Eat the yolks - really!
If you've been avoiding egg yolks, juicy steaks, butter, cheese, and other delicious foods because you think they're a one-way ticket to heart disease and obesity, think again! According to Dr. Malcolm Kendrick, "There is absolutely no correlation between saturated fat intake, cholesterol levels, and heart disease." In Cholesterol Clarity, Jimmy Moore, the man behind the Livin' la Vida Low Carb blog and podcast, lays waste to six decades of misguided recommendations from health and nutrition "experts" to reduce our intake of cholesterol and saturated fat. Jimmy learned the hard way that the secrets to losing weight and regaining vibrant, robust health and fitness are *not* the low-fat, low-cholesterol diet and endless hours on treadmills that have been recommended for everyone across the board since the 1950s. In fact, he lost nearly 200 pounds and eliminated his need for pharmaceutical drugs by doing almost the exact opposite of what we've been told will make us healthy. He ditched the "healthy whole grains" and started eating a lot more fat--and not just the politically correct fats, like olive oil and avocados, but ...*gasp*... more saturated fat, like lard, butter, and beef tallow. And you know what? Every important marker for health--including triglycerides, HDL, hemoglobin A1c, C-reactive protein, and more, *improved.* A diet high in fat, and especially high in animal fat, moderate in animal protein, and very, very low in all those healthy fruits and grains, actually made Jimmy's health better. But you don't have to take his word for it. While leading authority figures in the influential health organizations of our time seem to be united in their condemnation of cholesterol and saturated fat, there is a small but quickly growing number of doctors, nutritionists, researchers, and public health experts who have evaluated decades of scientific studies in the medical literature and come to the conclusion that the cholesterol we eat (dietary cholesterol) has little to no effect on the cholesterol in our blood (serum cholesterol), and that trying to lower cholesterol by eliminating it from our diet is largely a waste of time. In fact, trying to lower cholesterol at all is largely a waste of time. According to Dr. Dwight Lundell, "Cholesterol testing is 99 percent irrelevant because cholesterol is not what causes heart disease. Therefore, who cares what your cholesterol level is?" Not to mention, we shouldn't want to lower our cholesterol without knowing why it's high in the first place. Elevated cholesterol is not a disease; it's the canary in the coal mine: a signal alerting us to the fact that something is not right in our body. But that doesn't mean we should arbitrarily and automatically lower our cholesterol. The key is to find out what that underlying cause is and go after *that.* As Jimmy says, "The knee-jerk reaction to push a statin medication to lower your cholesterol as the first line of defense without looking further into the cause is one of the most foolish things your doctor could ever do."Jimmy's book is chock-full of zingers from a new cadre of medical and research professionals--a list that reads like a who's who of the crème-de-la-crème of cardiology, biochemistry, dietetics, lipidology, and family medicine. These aren't armchair experts. They're highly credentialed specialists and they're united in their condemnation not of saturated fat and cholesterol in our diets, but of sugar, refined carbohydrates, excess omega-6 fats (you know...from all the "heart-healthy" vegetable oils we've been encouraged to consume), stress, inflammation, and all the *other* likely causes of heart disease that got pushed under the rug in favor of blaming everything on cholesterol - a molecule absolutely essential for good physical and psychological health. If you want the full story on how cholesterol and saturated fat got their undeserved bum rap, I recommend Good Calories, Bad Calories, the tour-de-force by Gary Taubes. Jimmy's book, on the other hand, is exactly what he set out do: write something for laypeople, without the high-level scientific jargon that might turn people away from reading something that just might save their lives. If you want to know what kind of tests to ask for at the doctor's office, and how to interpret those results for yourself, this is the book for you. Did I just say "interpret those results for yourself?" Yes, I did. If your doctor is up on the very latest research regarding cholesterol tests, then they can be a wonderful partner in your healthcare. But sadly, many physicians have neither the time nor the desire to learn anything that contradicts the party line they learned in medical school. It's a shame Jimmy had to write a book like this, but like Dr. William Davis says, the truth is, "people are turning to people like Jimmy Moore for answers to their health problems rather than their own doctors because the doctors have no damn idea what's going on."If you're looking for specific diet advice, meal plans, or simply some more detailed information on how and why this cholesterol mess got to the crazy state it's in today, there are more suitable books for you (most of which you can find listed in the additional resources at the back of the book). But if you want a quick, easy read that will either allay your fears about your "high" cholesterol (which is not actually high at all), or spur you into action you can take immediately to lower your triglycerides and raise your HDL (hint: drop the carbs and eat more saturated fat!), then do your heart health a favor and order this book.My only beef with it is that, considering how absolutely critical cholesterol is for vibrant health, and considering how deeply the public has been misled, and for how long--and how many lives have either been lost or damaged along the way--I was surprised that Jimmy and his co-author, Dr. Eric Westman, weren't angrier about the whole thing. I get furious when I think about the immense emotional and financial costs the cholesterol myths have wrought on our society. But I'll give the authors credit: unlike me, they keep their emotions in check. They are responsible in presenting information without exaggeration and hyperbole. After all, when you have a world-renowned researcher saying without equivocation that "dietary cholesterol is not the problem in heart disease," there's little need for pomp and circumstance. The simple--yet stunning--truth should be enough.
