No need to push the button and open the clear cover to read the time. Clear cover magnifies the watch face and doubles as a magnifying glass. The watch face is off white. The watch face glows green in the dark. Although the product description shows that the watch is waterproof, the 2 pages of instructions say that you should not immerse in water. The watch has auto-winding capability, but if you are not a practicing gymnast, the watch will not wind sufficiently in your pocket or bag.This is a beautiful thing to behold inside and out. The watch case metal looks like carved antique brass and the naked moving mechanical mechanism is viewable from the front and rear. Looking inside, you are treated to gold and chrome plated parts along with blue screws and red jewels. I even see the mainspring through the front glass.Unboxing, you will find a small clear "Made in China" sticker on the back glass. Carefully remove it, do not scratch the glass. You can use Use Ronson lighter fluid to remove the stubborn glue left on the glass. I think it feels smooth like glass and not plastic to me.I set this using a solar atomic clock, comparing time accuracy during the day and night. Very accurate for an inexpensive mechanical watch. This is so inexpensive, I purchased another one of these the very next day. Don't let my wife know. The new one appears to be just a touch faster than the first one. Still, as accurate or better than other mechanical watches I use.The watch is pleasingly thick from front to back, with a good solid heft. It fits comfortably in the small pocket in Levi and Lands End jeans. Note: I have not yet tested what will happen if you sit for hours with this in you tight or loose jeans. I hope I don't crush it. The chain matches the watch case color and metal.This is a mechanical watch with a mainspring, [DO NOT over wind. You could harm the mechanism.] When you feel resistance, stop winding.RECOMMENDATIONS -o If you use it occasionally:WIND watch stem in the morning up to 20 times (limited). Watch will run accurately all waking hours.o If you use it daily for a week or more:WIND watch stem every morning up to 20 times (limited). WIND AGAIN before retiring for the night. Watch will run accurately throughout the night and into the morning. REPEAT for all days.Everyone tells time with their cell phone, so nobody will ask you what time it is. It is much, much cooler and sophisticated to carry this with you and use it proudly.

Keeps excellent time.I've forgotten the habit of having to wind my watch in the morning. Something I did for many years in my youth.Now I've gone full circle and have develop the habit again.However, the watch is outstanding.

My first watch had been damaged in shipment. When I contacted seller absolutely no problem, go to UPS Store here's the code Easy Peasy. Eight day new watch, arrived was ticking, set the time wond about six full turns, 14 hours later still dead on with my phone. Highly recommend for Ag. and timber workers.

love but has to be winded up every day

I bought this as a gift and it doesn’t keep time.

Love it. I have purchased many pocket watches and I have finally found a good one. I like the magnifying glass, and it keeps time well. I was concerned as I am older and not able to get around well, or much. However, because it keeps time longer with a single winding, and I do walk around, it keeps time well. I have not had it stop once yet, and that would be expected/acceptable to me. So, above my expectations!!This is a great design but in the last few weeks it has stopped keeping good time. Not sure if I need to wind it more but I am afraid to break it. My other pocket watches have an obvious stop point so I know when to stop winding. I love the design and hope I can get it working, otherwise another one bites the dust.

I have 2 minor problems that keep this from being 5 stars: It is so thick that it sometimes hangs up getting it out of my jeans watch pocket, and the self wind mechanism is not as robust as the ones I had back in the sixties. I ordered the one with a green window and got one with clear glass, that is not a problem since I think the one with clear glass looks great. I have started giving it a little winding each time I check the time and the self wind feature is no longer an issue.Most modern pocket watches the crown and bail are not well attached and don't last long, this seems to be robust, I will readdress this later if they don't hold up

When I got my watch, I tried the "automatic" winding, but found out that this is a wind-up watch, instead. No problem here! In fact, I prefer the fact that it does wind up, as that was what I was looking for. Now, it doesn't wind up like a "normal" watch, because when you turn the knob, it never stops. Strange, in a way. But I like that, too, because there's always a danger of winding up an ordinary watch too much and it will stop functioning. And a bonus: it seems to keep accurate time, which is something else no other watch has done for me. I set the time several days ago, and it gained maybe a minute. If it gains five or more, I'll set it again. But it isn't the every day event, as it's been with a wrist watch I bought for twice as much. That one gains 4-5 minutes per day.My husband was so impressed with the large numbers and ease of seeing the time that he had me order him one, too. While I don't know how long this watch will last, from how it seems now, it should last a long time.

I've had this a few weeks and it keeps time well. I normally wind it manually because I'm not active enough for the self-winder to keep it going!

EXCELLENT TIME KEEPER, REALLY GOOD WEIGHT IN THE HAND, VERY CLEAR AND EASY TO READ.I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THIS WATCH.

Great looking watch and worked fantastic for the first 2 months.. job ended and it went into storage for a month. Now it won't hold time and second hand ticks sporadically like it's sticky. Just another paper weight now.
