Fun mysteries to solve
My children really enjoy the Critical Thinking Co. curriculum. They love working through mysteries in this book, Red Herring Mysteries Level 1. They came up with some really creative solutions/answers. We look forward to getting the Level 2.

Fun!
This book is so fun! I teach gifted in grades 3-5. It’s a bit challenging for the 3rd graders, but perfect for my 4th and 5th graders. This was recommended by another gifted teacher. She wa Wright, my kids keep also to do more! The activities won’t last more that 15 minutes, it’s a great brain break or warm up activity.

My Gifted class loves these.
I teach elementary Gifted and my older kids LOVE these riddles. Several students request these every class. I just wish they would make a book of these to use with grades 1-3. I've had some success in modifying these to suit younger students, but a 1st-3rd grade version would be fantastic.

Not a student workbook
To me, a workbook is a student book containing information, instructions, exercises, and quizzes relating to a particular subject that can be used for self-study. This is a teacher's guide to teaching critical thinking to a group of students.

Students love these!
I really like the graphic organizers and worksheets supplied in this book. Great to have when you need to fill small amounts of time at the end of class or during transitions.

I like the question and answer format (which is like "Twenty Questions") because it requires choosing questions carefully to narrow down the options - a skill many kids do need help developing, I've found. However, to me these are just riddles and semantic games, not what I consider mysteries. I would like to find more books with whodunit type mysteries similar to those found in the Critical Thinking Detective books, which my kids and I very much love.

Background Knowledge Required
SPOILER ALERT: I was disappointed by how much background knowledge would be required to solve many of these problems. For example, to solve various problems one needs to know: that you'll be electrocuted if you touch power lines with a metal pole, that "to bail" means to remove water from a ship, you need more than 50% of a paper bill to spend it, and that 'gut' is used to string tennis rackets. Thirteen of the 62 mysteries involve sports/music/game scenarios that my children would not be familiar with.
