How to Fake it in Hollywood: A sensational fake-dating romance

A great debut
10/10 would recommend. That’s all you really want to know, but indulge me. This is a debut novel and as far as I’m concerned, an excellent one. If you like Emily Henry, Mhairi McFarlane or Christina Lauren, you’re going to enjoy this one.Grey Brooks is struggling to get work after her sixth and final season on teen soap Poison Paradise and with no power in Hollywood she can’t get her passion project made - a book adaptation written with her best friend. Ethan Atkins was a wunderkind Oscar winner but is still reeling from the death of his writing partner and best friend, plus a highly public divorce and a drinking habit that’s spiralling. When their shared pubilist suggests a PR relationship to help both their careers, they reluctantly agree. But things don’t stay fake for long and Hollywood can be brutal.I assumed this was going to be a straightforward fake dating story but it's so much more. It explores addiction, trauma and a Hollywood system that punishes women for being human but allows men to thrive regardless of their mistakes. What I loved most about this book were the positive female relationships (ex-wife and girlfriend don’t hate each other!), the fact that it seemed somewhat realistic and mostly that it didn’t end with a contrived wedding / pregnancy. Normalise being happy without being married! Big fan of this. A perfect summer (or anytime) read.

Its OK folks, there's a HEA!
This author was freaking me out with all the angst at 90%! Where's my resolution and my HEA?! We are getting too late for that! But *phew* it happened and in a nice way too. I've seen the magazine article type of ending before and I thought even though it leaves me wanting more it's still a cool way to end things after making us go crazy thinking it would be a woman's fiction instead of a romance! We need HEA for it to be considered a romance *desperate look*! HahaGreat debut. Amazing characters (just wanted a bit more of the best friend and ex-wife because they weren't full on 3D yet even though there was more to them then serving the plot/scene/heroine). Oh the angst? And the love? And the sex? All top notch!Highly recommend it!

fabulous
A perfect summer read with heart and depth and surprising emotional intensity. Both protagonists are interesting, flawed humans. Ava Wilder makes you care for them and their chemistry leaps off the page.

Great debut! Must read!
am I obsessed? perhaps. but i do want everyone to read this book! 😍how to fake it in hollywood is a beautifully written romance between a reclusive actor and a young actress that starts as a publicity stunt and evolves into a complex relationship of ups and downs.both grey and ethan are amazing characters, who deal with their own demons while trying their best to open up to each other.the book deals with some pretty heavy topics, as ethan battles with alcohol addiction, but Ava Wilder does a great job of exploring his issues with respect and lightness (or as much lightness as the topic allows)! I also love how she was able to show the perspectives of both someone who struggles with addiction and someone who loves that person in a very realistic and empathetic way!
