AMEROUS Wooden Chess Pieces Only, Staunton Style Wood Chessmen with 3.15" King - Storage Bag - Gift Packed Box, Tournament Chess Game Pawns for Replacement of Missing Pieces

I purchased an Amerous Chess Pawns set of wooden chessmen to help me analyze games while studying chess books and online chess databases. I am very impressed by my new Amerous chess pieces. They certainly far exceed every one of my expectations. Here are some of the things I like best about them: 1.) The chessmen are made from wood in the traditional Staunton design. They are of obviously very high quality, with plenty of fine detail in each piece, and are very nicely finished. 2.) The chessmen are somewhat smaller than those found in a “regulation” tournament set, and that makes them perfect for use as a travel chess set. The kings stand just over 3 inches tall. My chessmen work especially well on my 12-inch and 15-inch chessboards. 3.) Each chessman’s base is covered with a flocking fabric (similar to felt) that protects my chessboards from unwanted scratches. 4.) Although the pieces are not weighted, they stand firmly in place on my chessboards. 5.) Each of the two chess armies comes in its own attractive cloth bag (with drawstring) for storing the pieces. One suggestion: the manufacturer should consider adding one additional white and black Queen to the set, for those times when players promote a pawn to the last rank and need an extra Queen. The Amerous Chess Pawns set of wooden chessmen is a winner in every way, especially considering its low price. Highly recommended.

The chess pieces are of decent enough quality, and certainly are better than I expected given the price point. They have a rough, handcrafted look that pairs very well with my handmade chessboards; the black pieces of my set are slightly nicer than the white pieces, with the white Knights having a texturing on their backs that is misaligned and the eyes set back a bit too much, and there is a small difference in the coloration of the different white pieces, but I can forgive those types of variations. They seem *slightly* large for my 12"x12" board and *slightly* small for my 16"x16" board, but I think they look good enough to play them on either. They do have a bit less weight than I'd like; I bet one could drill them and add lead weights if this really bothered them, though. What prompted me to write this review, however, was the presentation. I didn't expect the included bags to be of such high quality (mine were lined, had no annoying branding, and even had nice little dangly things on the string ties to keep them tied--I've paid six dollars a piece in the past for dice bags of much worse quality than this!), or for the packaging to be quite so charming (the grammar's actually pretty good, though there's just a *faint* hint of Engrish in places); when you're opening it up, it certainly doesn't *feel* like you've bought a cheap set of chess pieces.

Nice quality and finish. They are lighter than some set's I've played with, but I don't see that as enough of a negative to not buy this set (especially at this price point).

Satisfied with the pieces. Great for replacing the lightweight plastic chessmen that came with their beginner set.

Very nice chess set, pieces are solid and good size

I love me some chess. I have a table in the great room. My sweet cattle dog puppy is a jealous bitch and secretly chewed a queen’s crown off, so I needed a replacement and Fast! These fit the bill. All wood and traditional in style. They are semi-light but have good detail. They come in bigger in size than I expected and are suited with felt at the bottom. They have 2 pouches for storage and travel. No board is included. They are giftable as they come in a nice box.

These chess pieces are fine and they look quite nice, but for wooden pieces they are extremely lightweight and hence prone to fall over at the slightest bump. I don't know what kind of wood these are made of, but it must be something comparable to balsa wood. I was expecting something more practical and heavy-duty. These serve their purpose, but I likely wouldn't have purchased them if I had been able to pick them up in a store and feel their actual weight.

As minhas peças chegaram em perfeito estado, sem nenhum defeito ou falta de peças. São muito bem estruturadas e lindas, coube perfeitamente no meu tabuleiro de 34×34. Gostei da coloração das pretas e as brancas vieram com algumas mudanças na cor, umas sendo mais escuras e outras claras, mas não é algo que me incomoda por ser apenas um pequeno detalhe. Eu amei!
