When I unscrewed the cap and pulled out the wand, only the plastic stick came out and the brush stayed inside, so I cannot use it at all.

This is the ONLY mascara that I buy. I have been buying this for about 8 years now. I will never go to anything else. I have tried all different types of mascara. I have came to the conclusion I only need this one. Try it, you will not regret it. It will change your mascara game.

It does take several coats to get the fuller and longer appearance and the mascara is liquidity so it takes about 6-7 minutes to get the 3 coats applied because I have to allow for dry time between coats. But it looks good once it's applied. However, it does flake through the day and unfortunately the part on the tube that removes mascara from the brush broke off falling into the tube after only 2 weeks of use. For the price, it works fine.
