Absolutely amazing
I rarely write a review but felt I had to with these.I have regular halogen H4 lights on my 2012 VW Caddy can and they were awful. I swapped the bulbs for osram nighbreakers which helped but there still seemed to be dull spots and hard to see the road in the rain.I then tried some of the cheaper brand LED lights but they were fairly soft. No hard line where they cut out and not much better than the osram bulbs. As a last ditch attempt I thought I’d try a named brand and bought these Philips bulbs.Oh my god. Crystal clear white light. A perfectly crisp cut off line so doesn’t dazzle anyone. And the full beam is so powerful I can see for miles! These are the best headlights I’ve had other than genuine HIDs on my bmw. Highly recommended! They’re expensive but worth every penny

Well designed lights
These led units produce al almost perfectly colourless white light, without any hint of blue. The leds are shaped and positioned to be very close to the halogen filaments they're trying to replicate. With reflector type lamp units, they seem to give a good beam pattern with a sharp and appropriate cut off.

A bit rubbish! Poor design, difficult to install and impossible to align.
My car has OEM HIDs on dipped and the old yellowish by comparison OEM halogens just weren’t very effective when they’re both on.Bought these after having fitted cheaper Chinese generic LED bulbs in my classic camper which were great, and I thought a big brand like Phillips would have been a safe bet as I’ve also used their LED sidelight bulbs which were very good.My experience may differ to other people’s but it wasn’t very good.Firstly, they’re not especially bright, I’ve got latest generation halogens that are brighter in terms of amount of light where you need it. This might be partly due to their poor baseplate design meaning they are impossible to align correctly so most of the light goes where you don’t want it.Aftermarket non-halogen bulbs used in halogen headlamp units do tend to scatter light a bit more due to the different shape of the light sources being a flat blade with LEDs either side rather than a 360 degree glass tube, which is what the reflectors are made for.The particular issue here is where the bulb body fits into the fixing base plate. It has two lugs which are a bayonet-type fitting into the base plate, they push home and then locate as you twist the bulb body. Trouble is the only position they align anywhere near a standard bulb beam pattern is when they first push in before twisting, so they’re not very secure and still not aligned. Spent hours fitting and twisting and adjusting…Not only that but the base plate is very fiddly to fit anyway and seems near impossible to get out again otherwise I’d have sent them back straight away. As it is I fear I may need to take the headlight unit out and fight with some pliers to extract the base plates. Some other brands use a fully rotating base plate with a grub screw to lock in place, like my Chinese ones. At least those can be set to the optimum position and locked in place. Not impressed!Attached photo to show limited angle of light spread from the LEDs, compared to 360 from a glass/encased halogen filament.I’ve now put halogens back in as they’re better - not as white but just as bright and the light is on the road and not up in the trees.**update:Have just fitted Katur LEDs which have a flat blade with LEDs either side and no recess like the Philips ones, and the difference is, well… night and day! The Katurs went straight in with ease and are just what I expected, LOADS more light, no need to adjust, no noticeable hot or cold spots, if I had to quantify how much better I’d say two or three times brighter, I may have to upgrade my dipped beam HIDs now.

nice
I've been using these in My Defender for a year now, was initially going to buy a loom upgrade kit and some better standard bulbs, but the price of these LEDs works out about the same and less hassle/wires/relays. They were easy to fit, a direct replacement for the standard bulb. The difference between these and Wipac crystal lamps with standard halogens was immediately immense. The colour is very good, the beam pattern is perfect and it has utterly transformed night driving.

Great quality from Phillips
Phillips are easily a market leader in the LED bulb market. These bulbs are very well made and are a quality item. The light they produce is bright, consistent and is a vast improvement over halogen bulbs. One word of caution though. Make sure you have enough room for the heatsink attached to these bulbs to fit in whatever bulb holder spare space you have in your car. These were placed into my front fog lights and there was ample room to fit them behind the from wheel cowlings. They wouldn't however fit in my dipped beam holders due to available space. Worth keeping in mind.
