Cleans well and smells good
Before I get to the rest of my review, I want to put this here for anyone who might have the same issue. My front loading washer smells. Ive done everything I should and when I switched to Meliora, I have noticed SUCH a reduction in smell. My thought was perhaps, just as the overuse of regular laundry detergent can feed bacteria in clothing, maybe it's the cause in the washer too. This has ingredients that both neutralize and clean and some of them are things you might actually use to clean those gunked up components of a washer. Moving on, I picked Meliora because it was one of the very few truly zero waste detergents. Many are powder and natural, but in bags or pods. Which still contribute to plastic. And I've love my experience so far. It smells great and seems as clean as any other detergent. The lovely smell doesn't seem to stay after being dried so I do wish they had a version of laundry "softener" or dryer sheets, but I've ordered some from another zero waste company to help on that side. It feels really great to be able to make a more environmentally friendly choice and have an awesome product too. *ps in relation to the washer, the smell actually comes from when the water drains into the standpipe in my case. So if you can't figure out why you've cleaned your drum and door gasket and it still smells, this could be a culprit

Most impressive laundry detergent
Bought this when the German Persil detergent we've used for years wouldn't ship fast enough for us when we were out. (See below.) We've only done a few loads of laundry with this detergent. So far, it seems impressive indeed. We have used the one tablespoon recommended for normal loads; if we felt we had a dirtier load, or a larger load, we'd use two. The detergent works well in our city water. Clothes appear to come out softer without the used of any fabric softeners. Colors appear bright without the use of the additional whiteners. Previously, our standard was German Persil (NOT! the US version), either in powder or "megapearls." We had grown accustomed to using it before our HE washer expired, and a neighbor gave us a top-loader for free (hard to beat that). We never used huge quantities of Persil for washing, and appreciated its economy. Meliora seems to work every bit as well, if not better than German Persil. The only downsides I see is that the scent does not last through the rinse cycle well, and it's too easy to grab the top of the can, risking the lid coming off. Other than those two minor issues, I'd say it's worth a try. Made in the USA as well, in Chicago.

The best green detergent I've found
Plastic free laundry! I do like how this one cleans! Seems much better than many of the other plastic free detergents. Nice light fragrance. Was good on whites, really dirty stuff, etc. I did add vinegar as fabric softener as suggested on the container. I removed a star because it was kind of expensive.

Good, increase amount for large loads
At first this didn't clean my clothes well and I was disappointed, but I upped the detergent use to about 2 tablespoons and it does a much better job of cleaning. I do tend to do larger loads so that might have been the reason. Since then, I've been happy with it and continue to use it and try some of the other scents. That said, while I am happy with it and plan to keep using it, its laundry detergent and I'd try another brand if I happened upon one that I thought was as biodegradable as this one. Love the powder format though.

“Eco-friendly lavender laundry powder for gentle and effective cleaning.”
I’ve been using this Meliora Laundry Powder for a few weeks now, and I’m absolutely thrilled with the results! Not only does it clean clothes thoroughly, but the lavender scent is wonderfully calming and not too strong. I love that it’s eco-friendly, gentle on my skin, and a little goes a long way. Highly recommend it!”

Not hypoallergenic
Does it say hypoallergenic? No, it does not. Fragrance free and dye free sounds like it should be hypoallergenic, but it doesn’t mean that. I’m experiencing a huge breakout at the moment. That’s my fault; I should have been more diligent in seeing where it didn’t say sensitive skin or hypoallergenic. If I were grading it based on that, it would be one star. As I mentioned, though, I didn’t properly vet it. So I’m grading based on it’s own merits. Consider the above a PSA. It does a decent job cleaning adult clothes, but doesn’t get those tough stains the way the big brands do. I might not look further than “hey, this load is clean, but we have kids, and they’re not gentle with their clothes. Looks like we’re going to have to rewash those. Do you know how many clothes we need to wash on a regular basis? I don’t need to rewash stuff. I really don’t need to rewash stuff. I get my quota without that.

Good ingredients. Can't find anything particularly harmful for someone with eczema. Just wish the price was a little bit lower.

I purchased this to stash in my motorhome as part of our emergency supplies ... We live in a wildfire zone and, with all our animals, if we were evacuated, we would likely just camp with the motorhome until we could return home. Recently, we've seen people evacuated for months at a time and our emergency supplies list grew. I needed a detergent that we would be able to use in buckets and that could safely be poured out onto the ground without being an environmental issue. Upon lots and lots of reading, I arrived at two brands that fit the bill, only one of which shipped to Canada. So, the reason for the longs story is to let you know that this brand has everything I wanted and was looking for, but I can't really attest to its function as it will remain sealed until we need it. The only reason for the docked star is because it is ludicrously expensive. The other brand (that doesn't ship to us) was somewhere around $20 for roughly the same amount. If I needed this for day to day use, I would never spend this much money on it.
