To ensure proper sizing, follow these instructions for measuring. First, measure at the base or thickest part of your neck. For sleeves, start at the center back of your neck, and measure across the shoulder and down to the wrist. If you come up with a partial number, round up to the next even number. For the chest and bust, measure at the fullest part of the chest, under the armpits, and over the shoulder blades, keeping the tape measure firm and level.

Order one size larger if you'll be adventuring with this...
I'm going to echo the advice I received from another review about the Silver Ridge convertible pants....The fit you want on this item is very much dependent on where you'll be wearing it. If you're going to be active (hiking, all of that), you really REALLY want to order one size up from your normal size. The fit on this, at least for me, is pretty much as expected. But like the pants, this shirt will fit a little tight if you're actually doing those adventurous things that Columbia makes you look like you do. If, on the other hand, you're just looking for a nice, flattering shirt...your normal size will probably be your best bet.The Fossil color is very khaki-like. It's a bit darker in tone than the picture suggests. I found it to be a great match to the gravel color. This design is very intriguing. There are hidden underarm vents to help keep things cook. The button for the sleeve tab is hidden, so it looks nice when the sleeves are unrolled. I particularly like the extra fold in the back collar, so when you put up the collar to protect your neck you have an extra little tab that increases coverage. As for wear...it breathes. It's cool. On a day with a 104 degree heat index, I didn't feel at all stifled or sticky with this shirt on.It's a good shirt. I like it a lot.

Great Hot-Weather Shirts
I bought two of these shirts to wear while I was visiting Singapore and they were a God-send. Very thin and light and great for hot climates, but thick enough to protect you from the sun. I wore them while we were out exploring the sights and to a hotel restaurant that was super pricey and I didn't feel out of place on either occasion. They didn't seem to wick away the sweat all that well, but I feel like they performed above my expectations given that the climate was so ridiculously hot and humid. Using the loops and buttons for rolling up the sleeves was a chore to get looking right, but was possible if you gave it a few tries. I have since purchased two more and wouldn't hesitate to do so again.

But if you buy 37 of them you could make a good parachute
This shirt feels like being wrapped in a parachute. The fabric feels like someone taught silk worms to eat ocean plastic and then made a shirt out of it. I make ‘swishing’ sounds when I walk in this shirt. This shirt makes me feel like I am wearing an alien symbiote made entirely of nylon that is pretending to be a hiking shirt. On the plus side: This shirt did protect my pale, fragile, Nordic skin from burning under the blazing Spanish sun, so it is not all bad.

Good-Looking Sun Protection, But Buy One Size Smaller Than Normal
I purchased 2 of these shirts for a recent hiking trip. The key thing you need to know when ordering is that they run one size too big. I normally wear size Large shirts, and the Medium Columbia shirt fit me perfectly.PROS:*Very attractive design*Nice material*UPF 50+ sun protection*Good ventilation*Can wear as long-sleeve or short-sleeve (sleeves can be rolled up and buttoned into place above elbow)CONS:*Size runs one size too large (if you normally wear a Large shirt, order the Medium)*Material not quite as nice as Outdoor ResearchFor a recent trip, I purchased 2 Columbia shirts, and my son purchased 2 comparable shirts from Outdoor Research. I liked my shirts, but was jealous of his. I rate the Columbia shirts 4 stars, but the Outdoor Research shirts were 5 stars. The key differences were the fit (Outdoor Research shirts run true-to-size) and the material (the Outdoor Research shirts seemed to use a higher quality, nicer looking material). But the Columbia shirts were less expensive than the Outdoor Research shirts, so I am not unhappy with my purchase. I expect to get many years of use from my Columbia shirts.

Light. Great SPF coverage. Quick Dry.
I'm 6'2" and 180lbs and I got the medium. Sleeves came all the way to my wrist and was a comfortable fit. That should help you decide on the size, I hope.I got mine for a week in Costa Rica where is was 90+ degrees and humid. They were not "super" comfortable, but they're acceptable, and when I washed them, they came out with a lot of static cling for some reason. I think I would have preferred a light cotton tee-shirt over these, but I would not have gotten the SPF protection, which works as described. They have a double collar, which can be turned up, and then turned up again to cover your whole neck. They were great while white-water rafting and dried relatively quickly. I would not say that it can be considered as a option for upscale dining, as other have said, unless you get it in black, which I did. You can get away with it in black, and in the places where you want a shirt like this, "upscale" dining is not the Four Seasons anyway.Lightweight, folds up easily, and doesn't make you look "touristy." I spent a week in hot climates and packed only three of these in my carry-on for the entire time. Wash up in the sink and it'll be dry in the morning.

Great shirt but just a bit snugger than expected.
Overall this is a great shirt for being outdoors in the heat and sun. It’s a little heavier favric than one of my other Columbia shirts which is fine. I also like the smaller hook/loop fasterners on the pockets. The large ones of past shirts are annoyingly difficult to operate but these on this shirt are great. My disappointment comes from the cut. It’s a slender fitting cut for the size and is snugger than I’d prefer. I’m a big guy but not terribly portly. From what I had read on Columbia’s site, this shirt was supposed to be a looser fit. The size charts match my measurements. Good shirt still.

Great product - but get the size right for you......
Saw this shirt priced €60 on sale in France. Back in UK saw shirt on sale from AMAZON but unsure which size to order. A helpful reviewer had said that sizes for this product were a bit on the large end of the scale (the product is designed by an American company and I know from past experiences that clothing from the US comes up larger than european examples). I am nearly 11 stone, 5' 11" tall and 15 collar size and usually buy medium size clothes. The 'small' size shirt fits perfectly, not tight at all, so this confirms my thoughts that, when buying clothes from US manufacturers, a size down works well by european standards. Product is great, well thought out as a hiking cover-up shirt and good value.

Nice item and color. Looks good but the proce is high.
Nice item and color. It is a bit difficult to fold the sleeves but overall looks good. I feel the price is high on all the sun ridge items. I respect the good quality but with this demand I would expect more competitive prices here from Colombia...

A very lightweight shirt for warm weather use. Ideal for travel or hill walking in the summer months. The shirt will stand withstand rough use and will wash and dry quickly with no need for ironing.

far too large even for an XL size.

Low Quality
The quality could be a lot better for the price. Columbia Clothing is generally good quality, but have lost marks here big time!!

Good for hot and humid conditions, but consider getting 1 size smaller.
Thanks to other reviewers I got a size smaller than I normally would and it fits well (I'm normally an XL in the UK, but bought L). Practical and more comfortable than the synthetic feel would suggest.

Five Stars
Great outdoor shirt, sizing is on the large side.

Maybe for light use.
Seemed ideal, though collar bobbed around a bit, until the material started wearing from the waist strap of my daysack. Had only warn it with the bag for 2-3 days.
