robust instrument for the moneh
I am quite pleased with how this instrument is constructed for a mere $20 or so complete with nice box and accessories! One cannot buy much for $20 in this day and age that is well built. It is easy to operate, just make sure you are using the correct scale on the screen! If you are after urine specific gravity like I was, then make sure you use that scale and not the others! Make sure you calibrate it to "0" using that scale as well! As far as the physician on here giving it a bad rating because of scale confusion, I say, hey, think and do some research in which scale is needed before condemning the instrument. It isn't exactly rocket science of which scale to use depending on your needs. This is a multi-purpose instrument after all.

Very helpful
Our veterinarian suggested I get a refractometer to check the gravity of my oldest dog’s urine. She’s been having issues for a while now. I decided on this one and it works great! I’m glad I decided on this one. The seller is so kind and helpful as well. Thank you :)

Does the job
I used it to test my kitty urine gravity. Could save lots of money vs. Vet’s lab report.

Very good piece of equipment
I need to monitor my dog’s urine specific gravity and this instrument is perfect. The enclosed LED light is extremely bright and makes it easy to use the refractometer. Get some distilled water from the grocery store for calibration purposes.

Poor Instructions
I am a physician that ran my lab in the past. I purchased this since I have some patients who need URINE specific gravity testing. I purchased this myself to see how hard or easy it is to use and see if correlation with the patient's hydration status and renal function. The one-page operation guide shows calibration is correct when the junction between the blue and white fields are at 0 and 1 of two separate scales. In other words, the "0" scale lines up with the 1.000 of the second scale. That's great, but the two scales do not show it to be possible to be at 0 for one scale and 1.000 for the other scale. The graphics that are shown in the "Operation Manual" say the scales are for reference only, please refer to your product for specific scales." Well, that's great. Show me graphics on how to calibrate for a product that I do not have but don't show me or tell me, do I calibrate to 1.000 or 0. It's one friggin piece of paper--how much effort or $ can that take to send an operation manual that is relevant to the product the customer bought?! Just plain stupid. So send a nice case, with what appears to be a precision instrument, but give the customer an ambiguous operation manual. Correct this and I will change my review to 5 stars. If not, I must return this product. I cannot endorse this kind of laziness.
